Despite its positives, Bridgerton is ultimately not as fully, effectively transportive this go-round. Even though both seasons rely heavily on the tropes of romantic storytelling, this one makes it easier to spot those tropes and become distracted by their presence. ... An absolutely exceptional season that opens up the world of Bridgerton to greater explore the family history and dynamics along with the towns people. The addition of Kate and Edwina Sharma only create a fresh story that plays out in beautiful and dramatic fashion. Beautifully done. The slow burn of this new season is glorious. I was in it from episode 1. Anthony is charming and wow!!!! Kate is amazingly gorgeous. Hope to see her in more shows/movies. What a perfect cast. Cannot wait for Season 3.

This is high drama entertainment. Great performances and of fun! The chemistry between the leads is electric, and while I could have done without some of the side plots, I was very pleased with Season 2!

I think what made the first season so magnetic wasn't just the passion or the sex, but being able to escape into this fantasy during COVID times. Not enough time to for the audience to adjust to a happier ending. The directions that the side stories went in also didn't really go anywhere, nor did they seems super relevant. It felt like everyone was moping until the very last episode.… Expand

The first season was charming, sometimes witty. The second season is just dull, with no self reflection and surprisingly dumb conversations. It feels like this was made by completely other writers.

The actors and sets were great but the plot and dialogue were pure rubbish! The dialogues were incredibly cringy (You vex me!) and the climactic scenes were incredibly weird (because after thinking of my dead father after seeing you stung by a bee, the first thing I want to do is get sexy… okay, sure *eye roll*). Likewise, the emotion and empty excessive Victorian-speak was vapid and distasteful. The droning on and on about their feelings and love was outright boring and juvenile. It felt like time I can never get back and I wished in those grand monologues about the importance of love, that they would just get on with the plot and make stuff actually happen. The reality is that Season 2 had a garbage script, too much fluffy dialogue, chunky/awkward love scenes, not enough sex/steam and could have been over and done in 4 episodes top as that was all that the plot contained. Honestly, I would rather go to the dentist than ever have to rewatch this season.

It was also classless how copious the setups were for future seasons. It looks very much like this is a ‘filler' season with more focus on secondary characters and their stories more so than the main leads. At least the first season focused more on Daphne and the Duke. This one was completely out of focus and incongruent.

For the one true sex scene, the cinematography was far too dark and it was utterly anti-climatic. I found myself squinting to see, “Is that a nipple or a chair… I can’t tell?”

I recall recoiling and cringing as soon as she sat down already knowing the dialogue would be cringy all to lead up to a rash sex scene with zero thought put into was about to occur. Also, can we stop calling this a regency anything. The clothing, behaviours (such as personal displays of affection), and diversity make it all appear like a modern day dress up lawn party at a rented British castle. And falling off the horse is straight out of Sense and Sensibility. Complete tropes and rip-offs. When the younger sister gets sad and started talking to her at the bedside, I was livid. It was a poor substitute to Emma Thompson’s heartfelt monologue beside her (dying) sister’s bed in Sense & Sensibility. Half a star as it was a major disappointment. It was SO promising and could have been done well but completely flopped. The good actors, elegant dresses, and dark/mood themes were there and they completely squandered the talent and resources.

Do yourself a favour, pick up the books and see if they are better or at least you can skim the bad parts and figure out the stories for the other siblings and Lady Whistledown but I, for one, shan’t be returning to watch a third season.… Expand

The quality of writing has taken a serious nosedive. It's hard to take the show seriously when there are such poorly written lines trying to sound profound or wise.
