Oct 4, 2014This show is not horrible nor is it very good. The performances tend to be over the top--especially the actress that plays the mother. And, it is just not very funny. Lawrence Fishburne deserves a better role than this. Its not worth my watching or recording.

Sep 25, 2014Better than I expected. Not as good as it should be. Laurence Fishburne is very good as the philosophical and realist Grandpa. The rest of the cast seems to a bit from the always be desperate school of acting -- especially the unknown-to-me actor playing the Father.
It's probably worth a couple of more looks to see what develops. Be known -- this is not the Cosby show! -
Nov 4, 2014This show was off to a good start but it seems the writers are already hard pressed to come up with more good, funny material.
I will probably watch another episode or maybe two to see if it improves. -
Apr 21, 2015This is a comedy that, in a lot of ways, feels very retro. It's a family show about mundane family struggles. What makes it unique, in theory, is its point of view. From that standpoint it might be a success, but the humor is flat. It doesn't work as a dynamic sitcom.

Apr 10, 2015I just watched the pilot episode, and i am very disappointed. The concept is great but the execution is nonsense. And as a person of color who grew up in a "white" neighborhood, a lot of what is in the show is over exaggerated.

The series has transformed from hokey formula into one of the goofiest, most reliably enjoyable comedies around.
-
The show is, first and foremost, incredibly well written, with astute observations about pop culture, particularly as it relates to ethnic identity.

In all, black-ish is Everybody Hates Chris meets Modern Family, but not quite as funny as either. Well, not yet, at least.
