    I'm two episodes in and while I generally like it and am interested to see what happens, there's a cheesiness to it, a Wahlbergness about it, that just throws me off. For example, the scene where the DA (agent, whatever she is) tells the main character that she'll have to pose as his girlfriend and he'll have to grope her to make it look legit was just corny af. The first two episodes areI'm two episodes in and while I generally like it and am interested to see what happens, there's a cheesiness to it, a Wahlbergness about it, that just throws me off. For example, the scene where the DA (agent, whatever she is) tells the main character that she'll have to pose as his girlfriend and he'll have to grope her to make it look legit was just corny af. The first two episodes are full of that Miami Vice **** I was hoping this would be much darker. We'll see.… Expand

    Firstly, the story is so ludicrous I had to laugh at the disclaimer "inspired by true events". This is an ok but fairly cheesy and predictable attempt at a True Detective style procedural thriller where the killer pretends to be mentally impaired but is actually a criminal mastermind. The drug dealer just happens to be a totally ripped male model and his FBI handler a smoking hot youngFirstly, the story is so ludicrous I had to laugh at the disclaimer "inspired by true events". This is an ok but fairly cheesy and predictable attempt at a True Detective style procedural thriller where the killer pretends to be mentally impaired but is actually a criminal mastermind.     This is a tense true-crime story told with immense confidence and care — but it’s the performances, especially from Paul Walter Hauser and Ray Liotta, that really make Black Bird sing.

    The humanity Liotta brings to Keene’s father, Big Jim, is multifaceted and sobering, and it cuts through the more irritating aspects of Black Bird to remind what a great actor can do with any amount of screen time.

    This is a (very) slow-burn drama, and it takes three of the six episodes for Jimmy and Larry to come face to face. When they do, it’s television magic.
