I can't seem to understand who the target audience for this is supposed to be. The content seems to be aimed at adults but its put forth in such a way that I have trouble believing anyone but kids would find the cringe-worthy humor and lack of informative science worth watching.

I can't even fully express what kind horror and disgust I felt when watching this. So I'll try with a few key phrases..

Political, subversive, fake science, deviant, degenerate, pseudointellectual, dangerous, echochamber. The only people I can see who could defend this monstrosity must be deeply entrenched ideologically and won't criticize "their team." Deeply disappointed in this

Deeply disappointed in this show as a big Fan of Bill Nye growing up. It looks like he sold his soul for a second chance at fame.

No data. No demonstrations. No science. This show tries so hard to pander to an image of young people as imagined by 60 year old rich men. Bill is just downright mean and bitter, and all of the humor falls incredibly flat. Imagine "Real Time with Bill Maher," except less funny, less in depth, more pandering, and more elitist and mean. As a fan of the original Science Guy, I am so disappointed.

Now like I said I agree with many of the things he's saying, I just don't this this is the place for it. On the topics Bill speaks on, there are rarely experts. Also, the presentation of the show is pretty mediocre. Tyler the Creator of Odd Future did the Theme Song, but passed that the presentation lacks any personality. There is almost no reason to watch this show: Any competent adult, which by the way is the target demographic, could do their own research on these topics and formulate their own opinions. The only reason I would watch this show is if I was a Bill Nye fanatic, and even then I would be prepared to be disappointing. 2/10 Expand

If you're looking for science, comedy, and some nostalgia, look somewhere else. The comedy is stale and pretty cringey at times, the science is simply not there and it wont remind you at all of Bill Nye you used to know.

What better way to turn people away from science than to inject it full of elite hollywood propaganda. Im sure the goal of this show is to attract people to the scientific method, but it accomplishes the complete opposite.

Not about Science but about Politics and biology-denier libera, agenda.
The episode about sexuality comes from the deepest fiery pits of Frankfurt hell.
I admired Bill as a kid, horrible thing to watch him betraying everything he stood for.
It will go down as one of the most insufferable, unscientific, political and vulgar pieces of NeoMarxist propaganda ever. Pure radica, leftist ideology.

I found it condescending and uninformative. I'm very science-minded, but I do empathise with the poor souls that are not. You're not gonna get to them with this, and this isn't very entertaining to science minded people except those that need their opinions affirmed in a very self-congratulatory manner. I bowed out after 2 shows, maybe it gets better as the series progresses.

As a millennial, the show feels so pandering to the point of insult.
The original Bill Nye never felt so fake and contrived, maybe because the educational content made it attractive to schools, while now they're trying to sell to young people, so they think it has to be wacky/over the top.
And the thing is... we young people already accept science. Echo chambers don't "save the world", they just make Netflix more money.

    Pro
    - You will learn things from this show. The Mose Project, greenhouse gasses, etc.
    Con
    - Bill absolutely, totally, and completely squashes, vilifies, and mocks any opinion or argument not aligned with his beliefs.

I just re-watched the episode about alternative medicine. The gentleman on the show who dared to defend alternative treatments was interrupted mid-sentence, mocked, and dismissed.
While I don't agree with much of alternative medicines, I found the show's approach to his alternative opinion vile.
In the middle of trying to explain the basics of the spectrum of sound he was cutoff. When trying to defend the idea of healing crystals Bill himself mocked him in a comic voice.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You might read the IMDb summary for this show, which says "Explores science and its impact on politics, society and pop culture. Each episode of the series will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry."
And that might lead you to think that this guy Bill knows what he's talking about. After all, he is THE science guy. It says he would refute anti-scientific claims. But that's not quite the case because instead of refuting them, he's spouting them.
For example, he says "gender is a spectrum". But instead of proving it, he just expects you to believe it. To me, he lost all credibility when he said that. He is pushing an agenda. And that is something an educator shouldn't do.
Science is about facts, not feelings. And that is something Bill Nye has forgotten (or cho$en to ignore).
Also, there's this awful performance by Rachel Bloom. Just Google it. Or, actually, don't Google it.

Metacritic keeps deleting my review. I wonder why...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let me start off by saying, I watched the entire series through before coming to say something about it, just in case. It didn't really get much better as an informative show, and continuously remained cringe-worthy through various segments in each episode (What was that song about mars potentially seeding earth all about? Why was it on the show even? Did I miss something there?)

Each episode had a topic that it focused on, but the format in which it's presented didn't seem to give enough time or information on any of the subjects to make anything he's trying to say convincing. Even to me, someone who's on his side. You can watch an entire episode and wonder if you actually learned anything at all that didn't sound like it was something you could "learn" from a comment in a YouTube video. As in, it was just presented horribly, unconvincing and rather childish or ridiculous sometimes.

The celebrity guests were completely unnecessary each and every time. For example: In Episode 10 "Save the World... with Space!" They invite a new Clippers (basketball) member onto the show to merely introduce himself as being new to the Clippers team, then proceed to show a kid dunk a ball in a fashion similar to what you might experience on the moon (without even suggesting or stating that's what we're looking at) and then end the show immediately right there by playing the theme song and we just watch them shoot baskets. What the hell was the point of that???? The topic of that episode was about the importance of space exploration by the way... I think? Why did they waste the time on the show to do this? What value is this to science, or anyone?

The panels were another aspect that under normal circumstances (by which I mean, giving perhaps a full 30 minutes of discussion at least) might spark up some interesting discussion or have time to present something actually worth watching. Instead we get only a few minutes of people trying to have a discussion, but being repeatedly cut off by one another before the segment suddenly ends with little to nothing of value being shared with the audience.

As far as abuse in the show goes... In Episode 11 "Malarky" (an episode on Pseudoscience and Confirmation Bias) we get a full 9 minutes of 3 different individuals voicing their opinions on the topic. But what was interesting is who was on this panel of "experts" as he always calls it (which I've come to assume is a joke of some kind). We have Professor of Health & Law Policy at the University of Alberta, Timothy Caufield, an Astrologist of Ebony Magazine from New York, Sam Reynolds, and a "Professional Skeptic" (What's that?) and Journalist/Radio Host, Jamila Bey. To put it simply, I wasn't impressed with the way they all attacked the Astrologer and undermined everything he had to say. For the record, once again I'm on Bill's side in thinking Astrology is complete BS, but I would at least have the courtesy to hear him out and attempt to reason or understand his point of view. His point of view was that "It's not Science, it's not Psuedoscience, but that it's instead Art and Entertainment" (which when I tried to consider the "art" side of it, I remained skeptical but curious of what he might try to claim). On the "Entertainment" side of it I could actually agree and say "Okay, we have all types of fiction as entertainment. Fair enough, as long as we can admit that." AS HE JUST DID. Yet they continue to lightly verbally assault him as if everything he does is actually harming the world. I don't see how you can blame a fiction writer for someone who ends up believing it's non-fiction, but okay. Now it could very well be that THIS astrologer is not like every astrologer, and you get that sense when Bill starts making claims of what Astrology is and then Sam responds with "No, that's not really what I do." But then they continue acting and talking about it as if everything Bill was saying was in fact true and nothing of what Sam was trying to claim mattered. There wasn't even a mere mention that maybe different Astrologists are different, and that maybe some are more dangerous than others. That's just **** discussion and debate and something I expect from Politicians, not Scientists. I got the sense that different people have different understandings and interest in Astrology, and instead of trying to understand that, Bill remained Closed-minded and refused to even discuss it. That's anti-science to me, and was very disappointing to watch. (To be fair though, when Sam was talking I had a difficult time understanding what he was trying to say... "Marriage of Math and Myth..." Hm.. what?) That episode was very hypocritical, ironically.

Overall, the show doesn't seem to understand how to present information intelligently and in a manner to get people interested. Doesn't present any facts, but instead a series of claims and probably does more to hurt science literacy than to help it.

I can't fathom who is this shows audience: it's not for kids, it's not really for adults, my only guess is the aim audience is tweens or teens maybe, because of the way the show desperately tries to be hip and relevant, but in reality it isn't, at all. I'm just puzzled by it. So overall, I think the show has its heart in the right place, but if they plan to continue they seriously need to make some changes and get better writers, or just let Bill do his thing. It's not the worst thing ever, if you don't agree with the shows opinions and stances you shouldn't automatically write it down as a piece of sh!t. There's some good potential in here, but it's just buried deep deep deep down, under the studio execs horribly out of date decisions to the 30-40 year old writers trying to appeal to teen audiences and failing at it and the sad fact that Bill Nye feels like he just doesn't want to be there. I'd give this show an optimistic and very faint 4/10. Expand

Then it got worse. Then he deviated from science and went on political tirades and claimed there was science behind it, yet never showed the science (because there is none. Feelings and science are not one and the same. They sometimes can come together, but in this case it doesn't). They also keep featuring some cringeworthy performances and animations. Of which?

    1) a woman keeps talking/singing about her female parts having a voice and all the gross stuff it does because 'no shame'. Also, the music itself is among the worst I've heard and then to see people dance horribly (even Bill Nye's dancing... wtf was he thinking.)
    2) Homosexuals and other sexual and gender variants must be wanton whores because they sexually abuse a heterosexual vanilla cone. (seriously, if you wanted to bring light to other sexualities, don't make them look like sexual predators)
    3) even though he has 'expert panels' they are filled with people who act less than experts nor are moderated so it becomes a cluster of nonsense.

Sure, this show might be your thing if you're an exteme leftist (I'm a moderate leftist) and like someone who repeats your views to pretend they're more valid than they are. However, anyone who can actually analyze this would realize quickly Bill nye does nothing but discredits himself and the far left platforms.

Maybe he did it because he has been a strong advocate of Global warming and someone said "We'll give you a show to talk about it... BUUUT you have to sell your soul and credentials to talk about these other things to and lie about them."

    Maybe.

Though some of the correspondents reports are informative, and the demonstrations can be fun at time, Bill Nye saves the World comes across as extremely over-simplified and dull. The show lacks any real scientific data or information. I was glad to see when they would bring on panelists who disagree with bill, but these people were always shouted over and insulted. I was very disappointed to see this, even though i always agreed with Bill, as i don't believe that the scientific community should should act so childishly towards opposing opinions (Even if they are most likely wrong). Instead i believe that these opinions should be voiced, considered, and debated with sourced facts to determine who is truly correct.
I lost interest when one of the writers came on to perform an awkward and unfunny stand-up routine where he spoke down to entire demographics of people, saying that groups of people are gullible and responsible for bad science based on their race.
For a far superior show with a similar format, i would recommend; Dara O'Briens Science Club, which contains much stronger facts, on more interesting topics, sprinkled with much funnier humor.

As he is a scientist, I am disappointed that this show seems more to be about spreading his agenda than it does proving it. His science experiments a very small part of the show and are used to circumstantially provide evidence of his own agenda.

He often has panelists on his show, some of which have view points supportive of his own, and some of which have view points divisive from his own; the problem is that the panelist segment of his show lasts about 5 minutes, and consists mostly of his supportive panelists mocking and shouting over the ones with differing opinions. It comes off as less of a scientific debate, and more of a deliberate undermining of those panelists beliefs without any scientific facts or arguments made to back it up. Don't tell me he's wrong because "science". Tell me what the science is! It feels almost more like a Bill O'Reilly show than a scientific panel, which is exceptionally disappointing.

Sadly, the scientists on this show come off as just as clueless as those they're trying to debunk. This show is a dumbed down version of the kids show, with way more vitriol. Those who want to watch a show in order to feel justified in their own beliefs might enjoy this, but only if they don't care about the science behind it. I invite all others to come to their own conclusions, but this negative one is the one I gained.

I'm giving it a rating of 1/10. It gained that point because there is at least a modicum of science in it. Maybe it'll make someone curious about actual science.

The very idea of gender fluidity is based on the notion that scientific knowledge (of gender in this case) is inherently wrong because it's derived from a particular society (in the case of this theory, created Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, a self-professed man-hating lesbian--who made a career out of convincing herself she'd found homoerotic subplots in Charles Dickens novels--the "capitalist patriarchy"). This is not only pseudo-science. Postmodern sociological theory is expressly and deliberately ANTI science! And the science guy just jumped on the bandwagon! I was a fan of his. I watched this aghast, marvelling at his ignorance. I'd love for him to come to a debate at the University of London and talk about postmodern gender theory. We'd rip him to shreds. There are actually interesting nuggets he could have shared about physiological and neurological plasticity, not that those would have proved his points, but he didn't even go there. Either that or Nye is ad-libbing, which is not recommended because he's not that good at it. It's been almost 20 years since Bill Nye the Science Guy ended, and Nye is still zany, energetic, and over the top with enthusiasm about science and science education. This series is for adults and not children, but for better or worse, when it comes to science education, children are the priority. As a great fan of science museums, I've had to cross a number of favorite museums off my list since my kids grew up. And of those science museums that try to target adults for at least half of their exhibits, the best they can achieve is high-school level. However, if you didn't major in science, high-school level exhibits can be beneficial to many non-scientific adults.

Nye is apparently aiming for that same high-school level science education that we find in museums. However, his high spirits may be his undoing because sometimes he's all over the set in a manner that is blithely hyperactive. Episode 2 focuses on alternative medicine, and outside of Nye's frenetic demonstration of how clinical trials work, the second episode was more purposeful and elucidative. If this improvement continues, the series shows real promise.

While Bill Nye Saves the World is a relatively modest enterprise by Netflix's standards, it is, overall, an admirable addition to its lineup. If it's not quite a rescue mission, Nye appears to have taken to heart the concept of trying to provide a small beacon of light rather than just cursing the darkness.

Bill Nye Saves the World is just not that entertaining a show all-around. While the format is geared to adults, the content is too simple to be of interest to them. For kids who might try to watch, all the talking heads will be a bore.
