After something of a slow start, “Baptiste” starts to gain momentum and the way it delivers narrative curveballs is striking. So is Mr. Karyo’s stolid portrayal of Baptiste.

It reminded me of 90s Prime Suspect, which is not a bad thing, but nor is it especially revolutionary to keep doing that today.

More a bacchanal of misery with an all-you-can-eat buffet of death, pain and trafficked girls. But the ray of light has been Tom Hollander's line in sarcasm as sweaty, unravelled, grief-ravaged Stratton. Without Hollander Baptiste would not have lured me beyond one episode.
