Average Joe propels its tightly plotted caper forward with an enjoyably manic, "anything that can go wrong will go wrong" energy.
-
Although the performances are terrific across the board, the centerpiece of the series is the portrayal of Joe by Mr. Cole. .... Its characters act the way many of us might, should we find ourselves in the extraordinary circumstances of "Average Joe." Which is highly unlikely. But highly amusing.
-
It’s an easily digestible genre offering that wouldn’t be completely out of place on an FX or Netflix, plus the ensemble is really solid, especially Malcolm Barrett and Cynthia Kaye McWilliams.
-
The show has a “Breaking Bad” circa 2008 vibe, a show where smart people make bad choice after bad choice. But don’t take that as a knock on “Average Joe,” which is better than average and does what it sets out to do quite well.
-
What makes “Average Joe” stand out is its lively and funny dialogue, delivered with sharp ease by its talented cast. But it’s the writing that ultimately diminishes these contributions into something more, well, average.
