Avatar: The Last Airbender has a good combination of character chemistry, an adventure that’s fun to follow, and good special effects, and that continues into Season 2.

Avatar: The Last Airbender returns with a much-improved Season 2 that finds a good balance between lighter fun moments and a darker and more mature story.

A more assured follow-up in just about every way, Avatar: The Last Airbender lightens the exposition load in Season 2, improves the action and visual effects, and digs more confidently into the character dynamics.

Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 doesn't transcend the original show and never will, but it remains well-made, mostly well-acted, and infectiously enjoyable.

The pros significantly outweigh the cons this time around. It's an adaptation that is not only much more faithful to the original series but also one that's willing to make some worthwhile changes to streamline the story.

As was the case last season, the script’s corny slapstick humor rarely lands, and unfortunately, the exposition is sometimes so obvious you could keep up with the plot watching from the corner of your eye as you scroll your phone. .... It’s entertaining, propulsive and a rich universe mined from source material that is some of television’s best and most creative. If you can forgive its flaws, it’s a decent summer binge.

This season's qualities still pale in comparison to the original series. Starring a young cast who sometimes struggle to bring life to a dull script, this show's main selling point is the fact that it isn't a cartoon — and that clearly isn't a strength in itself.
