Summary: Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul were the original judges for the competitive reality music series hosted by Ryan Seacrest that was based on Pop Idol, a U.K. series.

American Idol aired on Fox between 11 Jun 2002 and April 7, 2016. Season nine through 12 added a fourth judge that included: Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres,Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul were the original judges for the competitive reality music series hosted by Ryan Seacrest that was based on Pop Idol, a U.K. series.

American Idol aired on Fox between 11 Jun 2002 and April 7, 2016. Season nine through 12 added a fourth judge that included: Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban. Season 13 returned to the three-judge format with Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban.

The show moved to ABC in 2017 with Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie as judges. Carrie Underwood took over as judge from Katy Perry in 2025.… Expand

Season 16 Review: After watching that first episode, we can tell you that it’s a solid return, and definitely stronger than its last few seasons.
