Just horrible. Snide, ugly, tired humor, especially by lead character. Insult to stay at home moms and their kids. And once again, dad is portrayed as kind of a dense jerk.

Where to begin? This show is so bad. So segmented and rapid fire that I can't even absorb all the bad jokes. I did not laugh once during last night's show. This show tries too hard to get the easy laugh. Really, it's not funny. Quirky characters that are not believable. Wacky girlfriends who are so sterotyped that it is painful to watch. Really bad show.

A god awful show. Couldn't get past the scene of the daughter getting help with her homework from her Dad while he's sitting on the toilet defacating. It went down hill from there

Poor. The housewives friends aren't funny, they are offensive. The American Housewife seems mean, and while I'm sure she loves her kids it doesn't come across very well. But the main problem, unlike "the Middle' or "Speechless" the show just isn't funny. At least not yet. I hope it improves, but at least for the moment it has lost it's place in my dvd recordings.

I REALLY wanted to like this show bc for 27 yrs I've been an "American Housewife". Stay at home with 4 kids. I don't see anything remotely resembling my life in this show. Inserted into the storyline (for max political correctness) are a pair of lesbian friends who come off as over-sexed and slightly insane. The lead actress's constant facial contortions is distracting. I won't be watching, even "On-Demand". Expand

Bottom line is that Katy Mixon's over-emotive, mugging to the camera "acting" is as unfunny as it gets. If you are a fan of hers, maybe you'll get something out of this sitcom that is derivative of nearly every show of the past 10 years. Truly terrible.

Overall a great show with a lot of laughs. Katy Mixon is perfect to play in this role. This is no emmy winner but it fun to watch and pokes fun at American "culture."

I can see why some people find this show funny. The over the top politically incorrect mother speaking her mind on social and family issues can sometimes hit its mark. When a joke doesn't hit though, which is far too often, the excessive vulgarity of the show comes to light and it's clear that this is a crutch to get laughs. When a joke doesn't hit though, which is far too often, the excessive vulgarity of the show comes to light and it's clear that this is a crutch to get laughs. This wouldn't be a problem if there was something deeper behind show, but sadly there is not. It simultaneously claims to satirize the rich housewife lifestyle by pointing out its absurdity through crass situations and statements yet also glorifies the extravagant lifestyle of the lead family. At the end of the episode we are left laughing at the ridiculousness of the lead character. Overly obsessed with her looks, social status, past popularity in high school and other trivial things, she is lazy, stupid and a bad mom despite her thinking the contrary. In a show entitled American Mom, it's odd that it asks the audience to laugh at the Mom to say how useless she is. Expand

American Housewife like any show needs a couple episodes to get going. The writing is hilarious from the point of view of those not afraid to speak their mind. The moms relationship with others trying to constantly be perfect is spot on and in real time showcases that it's ok to not be normal in a "perfect" neighborhood.

You really can't judge a show by its pilot. Look at the Friends pilot: not great. And definitely not an indicator of the brilliance of that show. Like any sitcom, you've gotta give this one a couple episodes. Some might find the main character too sarcastic for their liking, but I view this show as a composite of all the best mommy blogs. Not the sweet, crafty mommy blogs that make life look perfectly rosy, but the funny, honest ones that are full of real mom confessions. Every line is hilarious, the characters are lovable, and the husband isn't made out to be a dufus. He's just a sweet, quirky foil to his wife. Love this show. Expand

Mixon’s casting would have been much more meaningful had her show more frequently let her form speak for itself. American Housewife’s star, so far, is Katie’s weight--and a number is a pretty boring premise for a story.

Katy Mixon is a star. It’s honestly her intense likability that makes this show so watchable, for of all of the non-fat joke-related mistakes it makes (chiefly its Alex P. Keaton knockoff older son character).

[Katy Mixo's] talent may be the key to buying this new comedy some patience with the audience as it figures out what it wants to be.
