Yipes, this show has gone downhill, and it's an incredible shame.

Somehow, I think this whole season will just be watching Sarah Paulson shriek over and over. I just can't do it anymore.

Its originality, great storytelling and the superb cast have kept me coming back each season. Having lamented the departure of Jessica Lange with much sadness I found her successor, Lady Gaga, to be quite captivating in her role. It's a testament to the creators of this series that they have been able to chop and change the majority of their cast with each iteration and still produce something of incredible creative quality.

All said I thought season 8 of AHS did deviate from the original formula somewhat. Many would say that's not necessarily a bad thing, however, in this case, I would argue the opposite. Overall it certainly kept my interest, but the storyline seemed in no way as intricate or detailed as before. The careful craftsmanship so integral to its success wasn't as apparent. Much of the plot seemed quite loose and a little rushed, never fully resolving at the end. I didn't feel much empathy for the characters or attached to them in any way throughout.

Also, I didn't quite care for the blatant display of the creators own political views. Whether the audience agrees with their opinions or not, I thought it lacked class to use their show as a platform for politispeak. It degraded the entertainment value and their integrity for me on a variety of levels. I would hope, now they've had their very public say, the next season will be a return to form. In my honest opinion, it's the weakest season so far, and that's a shame for what began and continued to be for a number of years a fantastic concept.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This season of AHS is AWFUL!! There is nothing but a bunch of whiny and crying by the female leads without any genuine horror. Gratuitous shock value such as blowing up a guinea pig in a microwave is beyond cliched and pathetic. And the whole concept of the election being a protagonist for the "cult," with all of the political buzz words being hammered into every episode is just bad, hack writing. I have always loved AHS - but maybe it is time to pull the plug on this hot mess. Expand

I absolutely loved the show but everytime any kind of show tries to mix politics with an imaginary plot it becomes ridiculous. It's very sad that an amazing serie like AHS tries to involve itself with politics just to gain attention after a not-so-good last season

Winter and the kid seem to be the only compelling characters. Otherwise, I would say that the characters are not really characters as much as they are platforms for the show-runners to voice their political opinions. Some of the dialogue is just so painfully dumbed down. Like corporate did it on purpose to reach a "wider" audience and it just fell on their faces.

American horror story does not feel like horror at all; it is pure blood, gore, nonsense killings, a great deal of cliches, unjustified and idiotic plot twists.

The only people that could possibly like this cliche ridden crap of a season are those who fall into the unstable dramatics of these cardboard cut out characters, or they're American Horror die hard fans who will like anything you feed them. Unless the filmmakers are able to do what they did in the first four seasons, this show should just be cancelled and put out of its misery. This season has proved there's no saving it. When each season from season 5 an onward is worse than the one before, then eventually shows like this get cancelled. Apparently the ratings have dropped astronomically during season 7 anyway, so that should be the hint that it's over. It is tragic as they once had something good going there for awhile there. Horrible. This show has become a parody of itself. Seasons 1 and 2 were top-notch, Season 3 was ok, but afterwards, the show has been a complete mess. And, yet, somehow, the showrunners have managed to outdo themselves and create a season even worse than the last one. Please have mercy on this show, FX, and cancel it. It is begging to be ended. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted to like this I have been a huge fan of the series since season 1 but I feel like this is the worst season so far It portrays both trump and Clinton supporters as big stereotypes, and Sara Paulson's character is about as annoying as can be. don't get me wrong I was horrified when trump won too but she starts shrieking and screaming(for the first of many times) like an insane person which plot twist she is! I also really did not like Bille Lourd's character she was weird and confusing and not in a way that makes you want to watch the next episode but as in a way that wow this character is seriously flawed, and you just want her to go away. I am also super disappointed that we don't have the phenomenal Jessica Lange back or any of the other Hollywood great (Bates and Huston) because all three bring stand out performances to the series and with out them the acting feels pretty lackluster, with the exception of Copper Dodson who plays Sarah Paulson and Allison pills son Oz. I feel that the rest of the cast was ok but not great, I would put Evan Peters closer to the top of the list but I still feel like this might be his worst performance on the series. I'm still giving this 2 out of ten because I am hoping the season will get better, and I think if it actually develops the characters a little more they could improve, I also heard that Frances Conroy will return which is pretty exciting. There really doesn't seem to be any sort of overarching plot or intriguing story-line that was present in other seasons. Yes, I know they are commenting on the state of America and politics, blah blah blah. But haven't we gotten that ad infinitum in real time since the actual election? So they are a small cult running around trying to create terror so somehow Evans gains a larger political following that he can manipulate during his pursuit of a city council seat....yawn. Politics are shoved down our throats everywhere we look, I myself am a political journalist, I deal with politics every single day. AHS was the one place that I could get away from it for an hour a week, and that was completely destroyed this season.
Also, very catty to have the alt-right framed as a 'cult' but liberalism framed as 'innocent.' What a joke!
I've suffered through this season every week just praying it got better, and it never did. Now with one episode left I'm debating whether I should even bother with it! What a totally blown opportunity for a really cool new season!
Instead we see the writers using their characters (who are so predictable) as their very own political soap box. I see why Jessica Lange threw in the towel, she's an incredible actress and I praise her for walking away, same with Kathy Bates.
We're back to clowns again, we get it, the writers think clowns are scary, the rest of us grew out of that by puberty.

The main problem of the show comes down to poor writing and no real planning. Every character is a cliché stereotype and not a real representation and as a result the artistic merits of the show are lost.

Performance wise most of the actors do a great job with a few acceptations. Billie Lourd is a terrible actress who has no ability to emote and is in dire need of acting lessons… unless her character was supposed to look like she was on excessive amounts of horse tranquilizers the entire time… then she did good. also in this season we don't even have Jessica Lange or Kathy Bates so the quality of the cast dropped A LOT. (I mean, WTF? You are trying to convey a feminist message for half the show and dont bother calling two of the best female actress of the saga? geez. Hope it is because Lange and Bates had other stuff to do)

Definitely one of the best and controversial seasons of AHS. You might be confused -or wrongly offended- by the political subject during the first episodes, but it is worth the wait to see the monster that it truly becomes.

FX really outdid themselves this season. I knew this season was going to be good because well duh, it's american horror story, but i didn't think it would be this good. by the way, american horror story is my fav tv show. the holy trinity of ahs: cult, coven, & murderhouse.

Finally, a return to form!! Up there with Coven and Asylum. Way more insightful then the previous 3 seasons (and less cliched).

This is the worst season of American Horror Story. I was hoping this one was going to be good after Roanoke was little more than okay... but this...omg completly and totally ridiculous political overtones. Ridiculous plot. Unlikeable characters. So awful... can't we go back to the supernatural horror and leave the writers/ hollywoods political views out of AHS? I seriously that it was satire at first with the complete over reactions to the voting but no, it was for real... and Lena Dunhams playing this Valerie character seriously was so incredibly stomach turning... Just so awful Expand

I do not want to see this season again, really bad, nor does it seem to belong to the family.

I've always found something to enjoy in every season. This season I stopped watching before the end of the second episode. Can't review it in depth because I found it so unwatchable.

A horrific story focused on sexist ideologies, American Horror Story: Cult is full of bland performances, a weak storyline, and unrealistic characters.

After apocalypse, this is easily the second worst season. It's start off strong and Evan Peters is shouldering most of the intrigue. Sarah Paulson's character has an interesting arc, but the season starts a sharp descent around episode 5. 6.7/10 Na minha concepção é a pior temporada de AHS, o vilão é extremamente vergonhoso, o enredo chega a ser engraçado, enfim a única coisa que salva são as eleições.

The concept for Tuesday night’s premiere of American Horror Story: Cult is so on-the-nose it can only be called brilliant. ... A murder investigation (led by Colton Haynes), and also a dizzying array of new plot points that distract from what works the best about this standout first episode: the crippling battle between politics and paranoia.

Unsurprisingly, though, it is not Cult’s take on Trump voters that has any real frisson. Murphy doesn’t respect that point of view enough to make it sound like anything other than raving semi-philosophy. But the show is more scathing about liberals and Ally in particular.

Every time American Horror Story attempts to imbue real, pressing fear into these statements, in the way that good horror often can--think of this year’s Get Out, for example--it also gets ... well, dumb, in a way I’m not certain the show realizes.
