This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have almost finished watching the entire season. So far, it’s quite entertaining. The series feels different from the movie - as it should. Episodic television and single feature films are different media art forms. 30 years have passed since Penny Marshall’s film hit the theaters. In 2022, we are no longer sugarcoating racism and pretending lesbian relationships haven’t existed for centuries. Not surprised to see a flood of “0” ratings from neocons Neanderthals. Anything remotely evolved in social content is immediately labeled “woke.” I think Penny Marshall would be overjoyed by this updated take on her great film. Expand

I have to say, I was surprised I liked this! I'm not a sports person at all, but I actually ended up learning about baseball and didn't hate it! I'm really looking forward to season two. This show is amazing and has a stellar cast. I love the stories they chose to tell. I was not expecting to be fed! Typically a sign that it may be something I like. Expand

Great show, not for everyone but a lot of heart, humour, and handles some complex topics with finesse and grace.

Presenting Max's and Carson's storylines separately acknowledges the reality of segregation in Jim Crow America. But this also means Max doesn't get to participate in the heights of each Peaches victory or the nail-biting worry of the team's setbacks. The scripts create an engaging arc through which Max discovers where she belongs, but she's never a fully enfranchised participant in their emotional highs and lows. ... Still, their earnest effort to do right by her comes off well.

This “League” is like someone took the original concept and found a new playbook. It works, but it’s also more adult than you could imagine. ... Because there are so many players to consider, they’re often reduced to their personality traits or positions. They all get playing time. Some, however, are more prominent than others.

This "A League of Their Own" does what any successful remake must: it finds its own voice, standing apart from its predecessor while also honoring its legacy.
