    Many viewers won't be able to take in the violence and heartache, but 13 Reasons Why brings a real issue to the table and refuses to shy away from it, resulting in a story that's told with care and urgency.

    13 reasons why I just like a lot of people was very sceptical about the show considering most television series/movies tend to show depression and suicide as a lot less impactful than it is and for me personally it was a huge deterrent just as a topic since I was a victim of r*pe and I had been so close to committing myself so many points in my life thanks to a numerous amounts of severe13 reasons why I just like a lot of people was very sceptical about the show considering most television series/movies tend to show depression and suicide as a lot less impactful than it is and for me personally it was a huge deterrent just as a topic since I was a victim of r*pe and I had been so close to committing myself so many points in my life thanks to a numerous amounts of severe trauma. But as I finally gave it the benefit of the doubt just a couple weeks ago, it hooked me more than I would've imagined.

    At first I had a deep disconnect with alot of the characters as I thought of them in a negative light, like the writers deliberately depicted and then, as the series went on, you saw each of their good sides, it always eventually showed everyone's black and white and their grey; but also their chances at redemption and that not only swayed me as a viewer but made me really think on how everyone had their side of their story and we get so wrapped up in that that we miss the big picture a good %90 of the time!

    I bawled my eyes out more than once watching Hannah's backstory and her reasons, and although at first I thought they were small, tedious things, I started to think back at my past and realised; it's actually really accurate. A lot of the things that affected me deeply in my deep depression was a lot of things that now wouldn't effect me so bad; some could be normal little things like getting yelled at, or told something someone didn't mean like "I hate you" or the likes. It doesn't matter what it is, something piling up on everything else can break you further, can make you close up completely; especially when you're disconnected with the people you care and show an interest in; when suddenly they turn on you and abandon you for some kind of reason (which legit I had happen to me by majority of my family at a young age) you feel like your whole world is being torn apart. It's different for everyone and everyone has their limits and I like how this show shows this really well, it did a good way in narrating it into its story.

    The second season I started out not liking very much and admittedly I do prefer 1 and 3 instead, it was rather interesting with Tyler's character development to me. Especially how you saw how he broke apart and was forcefully pushed to the breaking point just when he was starting to have things going for him. Then the way clay talked him down and everyone stepped in to make sure he was doing okay, simply because they trusted clay and all cared about someone he would care for.

    And Justin's story, oh my god. I thought he was such a dick at the beginning but I really ended up loving his character so much!! Especially how he got adopted into clays family when he no longer had somewhere to go. I know how it feels to be so grateful for a family to care for you even though they're not of blood. How much it means to someone and how special those feelings are, that bond. And the show really showed how Justin felt that way and then showed their growing bond in season 3. I have yet to watch season four but oh my god I can't wait and am dreading ending this incredible series!    … Expand

    Sensitive topics that most teenagers face brought to light in a well-made not overly preaching or surrounded by a dark & depressing atmosphere.
    The acting is good, the screenplay keeps you hooked till the end of the series although some minor plot issues. I think a season 2 is unnecessary but I am curious to know if it can be as good or better when released.

    Quite an interesting story about the difficulties of teenage life and the bullying of others.
    At the same time, there are too many stupid actions of the main character, because of which she was even more morally removed from this world.

Hannah baker was a mess..,she was weak n galz like her has no right to either live or blame other or responsible for their situation...lsnin to only her part so far in....season 1 i still feel she could have done more...y guys should overpower u or y anyone should overpower u ....not that she was a silent kid she spoke n blamed ppl wen she wanted to but not to the right ppl..i hv no sympathy for her...god gave her toi many chance ....if she was that weak she should have ideally ended up her life much befr as she always thought she was the only one in the whole world who was troubled but there are lot of ppl who get to face worst n and get out of it by fighting instead of considering oneself looser n sulking n getting depressed abut ones miserable life...i have no room of sympathy for such weak ppl who cant say no wen u are getting raped...to be frank she was so **** up that who knws that rape brought pleasure to her n she didnt struggle ....sick gal who couldnt even talk to counsellor properly what the **** was she scared of?? **** had no guts to stand for herself n hence i dont pity her.,,i dont stand up for her cuz many of us suffer this way but the best way is definitely not to end ones life… Expand

    O conceito da série, para começar, é muito bom e diferente de todos os programas da TV (não só norte-americana, mas mundial) que eu já vi. O plot da história, nos primeiros episódios, foi muito bem trabalhado. Na metade da história, perde-se um pouco de qualidade, mas quando as nossas dúvidas são respondidas, o final releva ser uma boa surpresa.

    At first it will seem boring but as the chapters advance they will hook you in a crazy way. A fabulous production, majestic performances and above all an incredible message that will make you think about life and the way you treat your neighbor.

    For me this show is about realising and understanding the nature of mental health in people of any age and how important it is (especially in teenagers) that we have conversations about the way we feel.

    The show was summed up in the final ep of season 1 where Clay says "No, I'm not ok, but is that ok?"     Overall was a superb first season the story line was pretty intense and intense with cliff hangers.
    Story telling was gripping and amazing too watch, captured key aspects too suicide and depression you wouldn't think about.

    This show gets a lot of hate for the wrong reasons. It's superb to watch

    The main character, Hannah, has used her suicide to TORTURE the people she left behind. Her "13 reasons" were childish and pathetic. Suicide is not the fault of those who wrong you, it is a personal decision. Although bullying and those themes are prominent in our society, we cannot justify this by glamorizing the reality of it. Suicide is bad. Bullying is bad. But bullying others and blaming them for YOUR suicide is even worse. How dare the writer think that this sort of bullsh** should be allowed in the libraries and bookstores.

    I have never been so disgusted, appalled, traumatized in my life while watching only a few episodes. I could not even bring myself to watch more than half the episodes because it's toxic and disrespectful to teens and adults who have truly experienced these situations.

    I will admit that students and teens should understand the effects of suicide and depression BUT NOT THROUGH A TV SHOW. Nothing will hide the truth more than a pathetic lost love story like this. Students are bombarded with enough stress in life than trying to comprehend the information in this show. How can we expect students to understand the full capacity of life if we sugar coat it with pretty girls and aesthetic Tumblr posts?

The show can help people (Knowing you're not alone) but it's not progressive or new.     The various things that happen to Hannah Baker do not change her character at all throughout the series, she's a 2 dimensional character that only exists to purely die. She only shows emotion immediately after something happens then it's like it never happened and nothing ever effects her.

    Aside from a couple of decently interesting shots the show is very bland in it's directing, it is a tv show however so I kind of have to cut it some slack in that department. But as for writing, the way the show writes about depression is very wrong and even romanticized at some points. I imagine the writing process was something similar to this: Hannah Baker kills herself>Why>Depression>Why>Guys are mean to her and the guy she likes won't date her>Why>etc. So far (episode 6) I've seen no arc or character shift in anyone. They're bland and only exist "Because plot".

    The soundtrack is one of the worst I've heard. It boils down to "THIS SCENE IS EMOTIONAL, YOU FEEL SAD." or "THIS SCENE IS TENSE, YOU FEEL TENSE", Instead of using actual skill to make us feel the emotions ourselves they attempt to force you to feel certain emotions with the soundtrack, if that wasn't bad enough they even failed at that. I often found myself laughing at the cheesiness of the music in scenes that are intended to be serious.

    Speaking of laughing I did laugh a lot throughout the show, I didn't laugh however at the lazy stupid jokes they randomly threw in. It's a completely jarring tonal shift and it only loosens the connection I had to the show's universe, a connection mind you that is already extremely loose. The jokes were unfunny and boiled down to "HA HA THEY WROTE A BAD WORD ON THE WALL HAHAHAHA" and the space they leave after the unfunny jokes or you to laugh just adds insult to injury.

    The entire show is unrealistic. There are scenes where the protagonist chases someone in a car whilst he's on his bike and he easily keeps up with him when the car is going 40-60mph, there are countless unrealistic moments in this show but the main one is the parents. The parents acting and writing is astonishingly bad. The actions of the parents are incredibly unrealistic and stupid. Not once have they acted in anyway similar to actual parents dealing with the subject matter in the show.

    As I said at the start enjoying the show is perfectly fine but you cannot call it a good show. It's extremely dangerous with it's lazy handling of very serious matters and mental illness.

    The thing is this show was needed, not the way it is now but a show like it was needed but it needs to be respectful, correct, realistic and most of all it needs to have effort put into it. Maybe have the writers meet with some actual teens with mental illness and some actual parents dealing with the loss of their child. Be respectful cause as of right now the show is insulting.

    It could be so much more, if we ask for it then it will be. Don't accept this effortless and lazy garbage.    … Expand

You may not agree or even respect it but you can kind of understand. Some say it’s glorifying suicide due to since the show started people have been leaving behind tapes. The only difference to me from the many years before the show has aired is they leave their suicide note on tape as opposed to paper. So if they were glorifying anything I believe it’s the way they leave their goodbyes. I also believe it was interesting how they show clay talking with hannah in the second season. The way I saw it was It is clay’s mind and how he’s dealing with the aftermath of hannah’s suicide. He needs her help to understand why she did it so his mind through her is trying to find answers. Another thing with the series is it is showing how everyone deals with these issues in their own way. There are people that believe this show is glorifies suicide and revenge especially to individuals who are mentally unstable. I don’t speak for all but I am mentally unstable, diagnosed with bipolar disorder, ptsd and panic disorders. Currently I am off medicine and yes I have a history of suicide attempts. The show hits on some real issues and yes pretty intense graphic scenes. But it’s not making me go out and grab a gun like alex, it is not making me find a tub to cut crucial arteries to be found drowned in my own blood. Maybe that’s the way the crew wanted the viewers to see it. Like many others they must have read the book and that’s where their imagination went. The show has professional support from doctors, survivors, advocates, etc to help make the series realistic. If anything it’s woken me up to talk to my counselor and shrink and if they were still alive I might have even opened up to my parents, hell they are not with us and I try talking to them. No different then clay tries to talk to hannah or someone religious talking to their God. Suicide is no joke and I believe that is what they are trying to portray among other issues.     It is the best what I could even imagine to watch!!! I think, this serial is worth at least to watch once. It's extremely interesting to watch about regular teens problems and a problem such as suicide. The story is fantastic, why she did it is very understandable. I think everyone should watch this amazing serial! 10/10

I want to start with this... when I was in 9th grade I read the book 13 reasons why I checked it out of my school library which is funny because it's Liberty High School. I felt very moved by the book I mean yes, Suicide and rape is a major factor in this series. But, I would like to say that 13 reasons why does express what does happen in some of these public school systems with the zero tolerance of bullying and the administration does absolutely nothing when an issue is brought up like that. and, to see how everyone goes through these issues after reading Hannah's death and, Bryce only getting 3 months of probabtion for rape?? what kind of **** and Justice was that for Hannah and even Jessica. Oh, and Tyler Down?? from the beginning you can see he's a good kid yet troubled because of these people bullying him to want to shoot up the school which makes you relate to today's day and age with all the school shootings and ECT. So, I feel for each and everyone of these characters. I lost a really good friend to suicide a little bit over a year ago. he went the way Alex Standall tried to go. But, we are out of highscool. But, it was all over a girl who made him feel like he was nothing. And, the town police constantly harassing him. And everyday I wish I told him I loved him. it was too late. So, I feel for Clay Jensen's heartache for being in love with Hannah Baker, But, having to let her go, There's not a day that goes by that Dylan is a thought. I think 13 reasons why is a really great show because it does bring awareness to allot of different points. But, I would like to know what happens next... What happens to Clay for the fact he has that gun for saving Tyler? Does Jessica tell Alex what happened between her and Justin at the Spring Fling? Or does Clay and his parents find out that Justin is having trouble staying clean? or what about Chloe telling Bryce she's pregnant? What happens to Monty for shoving that mop stick up Tyler's butt? What happens to Tyler? Does Bryce actually transfer? Does Alex get better with his mobility and memory? Do the polaroids reappear? There are so many questions left unanswered with season 2… Expand

    I disliked this season, however I do believe it's successor, season two, is a large step up, so I recommend sticking the season out. For me, the main characters were mostly unlikable, mostly because I could really only see things from their perspectives, and consequently I disliked the season as a whole. But I know there are a lot of people who also agree with me on this. There was no mention of mental illness. Just a girl who lost her friends in high school (that happens to everyone) and was sad so she killed herself. My generation has so many mental illness issues, there are so many people who struggle with anxiety and depression and this show does absolutely nothing to help. The non-personal reasons I have I can't say with full confidence because I didn't even finish the series. I read the book. I know how it ends. But yikes, this show is a 0/10.… Expand

    It's a good series but it's amazingly annoying that adults, parents are unable to help, see problems because they do not have a realistic picture of them. Likewise, it is extreme that the protagonist boy is anxious and that he who can best reveal it does not do it.

    I watched the last episode again. I couldn't commit to watching the full series again because its so bloody petty and I've watched it from the start about 3 times already. I understand how its suppose to give kids an understanding and spread the message and **** but it honestly doesn't do the subject any favor. When this show came out I noticed ALOT of kids from my school looking and acting quite down, attempting to cover it up. The show spread the word, but not in a good way. Alarming news said that this show actually became a "trigger" for some of the youth and some even tried to recreate their own versions of this show. Mind boggling andAmbitious show but failed to really showcase its prime objective.     I read the book, so i already knew all the plot. However, when i started to watch, it looked like i was watching some different story but as excellent as it original. Beautiful, well acted, and depressing in the measure about how the producers wanted.

    One of the best awesome TV Series so far. It's quite hard to portrait such kind of issue in front of Today's Generation. Dylan and Katherine both did a wonderful Job. I am really Glad this is a series - hopefully this can spark something to be done inside All school system, besides displaying a 1000's number of signs around campus...:-)

    Yeah, I'm from the walkman era. The cassettes, tape recorder, I've lived in the final days of that time enjoying all of them. I still have some old tapes saved somewhere that I've to locate them, but I've no device to place them. Anyway, when I heard about this series, how those previous technology was used to narrate a thriller drama, I was so happy. Each episode named after the how many tapes used, and its sides. Maybe the new generation won't understand that. Though the story matters, what it was focused and unfolding the truth, the message was great.

    One of the top rated debut from the 2017. The Netflix usually strikes the gold, and so with this. After so many good reviews, I wanted to see it to learn what's that all about. In the end, I did not get disappointed. But it was not that great, except the message, a very important message in the present world. I thought they dragged it. The whole season. I think it should have been only half of those total episodes. So the plots would have got tighter and faster narration. That suicide scene really terrified me. It was too strong, definitely I'm against showing that to youngsters.

    It was about a boy who receive a box of tapes from the dead girl. The girl who committed suicide, so she has recorded these tapes telling what made her to take this terrible decision. All those influenced in her life to her death gets the tape and finally how it all ends is the mystery told in the final episode. But before that, how the tale develops among the guys who are involved in it decides to stop this attempt. It's not that easily stopped and reasons are revealed.

    Initially I thought it was one season thing, but now after the final episode, I think definitely season two is on. They have announced it as well now. Well acted and made with the production. Many actors you can point out, but Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford topped the list. There's more to come or I'm expected in the following season than what this season has revealed. So I think I'm going like that more than this. It's too early, but there's a very little it to get wrong. I hope that's where it ends, but they could be tempted to extend the series. Anyway, a nice watch. It will remain one of the best from the streaming giant! So watch it sooner than later!

    A very powerful and emotional series. Despite the controversy surrounding how it tackles suicide, I found it educational and eye-opening, especially for people who do not know much on the topic. As well, the characters were realistic and easy to connect with. Maybe parts of the show were cheesy, however it is very enjoyable and easily binge-able.

    I just don't get when realistic stories fall into the fantasy category. When I can't believe something it is designated to look real, it is the worst. 13 Reasons Why fails in connecting with feelings, which is the foundation of this series premise. Do we really need another season?

    The acting is good, the screenplay keeps you hooked till the end of the series although some minor plot issues. I think a season 2 is unnecessary but I am curious to know if it can be as good or better when released.

    Moral of the show: Anyone who is being bullied or harrassed should commit suicide and make said tormentors feel as guilty as possible for it (note the obvious sarcasm).

    La serie te hace empatizar con la protagonista y con el resto de personajes, los cuales cada uno tiene una personalidad muy distinta. El final es muy abierto y deja muchas incógnitas, por lo que esperamos una segunda temporada.

    This movie was way to drawn out! And the ending was awful. Could of shown what happened in court, to Bryce, Alex, Clay and the rest of them. I would never let a teenager of mine watch this. This is only my opinion of course.

    I don't know what to say as the whole show was so irritating. Hanna's character was so flimsy. All the characters were just manipulated to fit the bad plot.

Clearly marketed at young teenage girls, I found myself outside the target audience and yet still felt I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story.     If you read the other reviews, you'll see that there's controversy over whether this series encourages or discourages suicide. Frankly, I think this question should be left to child psychologists who are trained in the matter. One thing I have to agree with though, is that it does romanticize suicide. I am not saying that this encourages suicide necessarily. At heart, this is a love and revenge story as much as a suicide story. It's hard to argue that the Star Crossed Lovers plot, with the main character being led through the life of his love with the help of recordings and maps of locations is not a romanticized ideal of suicide. We also get a story where the goal of the suicide is successful. We see how Hannah's suicide leads to revenge on each of the people who have wronged her in the past. We see the students squirm as they fear for reputations and scholarships. We see the school administration fearing for their jobs. We even see how this has been an effective way for Hannah to get back at her rapist, something that might not have been possible otherwise.

    One thing I'm afraid of is that people will take this show to be realistic. One anecdotal story does not prove that it is not, but a similar suicide happened when I was a teenager in school. I'm sure many schools handle things differently, but this is not at all how it was handled. I think people need to remember while watching this that it is just a tv show.    … Expand

At every episode we discover something new about the heroine this continue the process of addiction. However the tv show is a little bit too repetitive and we know what's going to happen next.

    This series exceeded my expectations, it really went deep into the subject of bullying and suicide. This series is horrifyingly beautiful, the story telling is amazing, it kept me engaged every second of the way and i felt that every scene and every line of dialogue was completely necessary, which i rarely see in other shows.

    I felt like i could sympathize with every single character, except Bryce, who was just a douche... Some scenes were beautiful, like the scene when Hannah is imagining her future with Clay while kissing him, his heartbreaking, and they didn't shy away about the rape and suicide scenes, they needed to be brutal, and they were, i was shaking while Hannah was slitting her wrists.

    This has to be one of my favorite TV Shows of all time, simply because not many shows keep me engaged all of the way and make me feel what i felt, putting myself in the shoes of all those characters and feeling exactly how they are feeling

    After Stranger Things, I was worried if this series wouldn't live up to my expectations. This show is a triumph in every sense of the word. More people should watch this series in order to understand the importance of bullying and suicide.

    I'm not saying it's perfect. It has it's flaws. (But so does everything, nothing is perfect.) 13 Reasons why is one of the very few series that did not only catch my attention bus also my heart. Despise It's

    This show is amazing in so many ways. The storyline is great. The acting is good. And there's many scenes that make you want to cry. It's really good in so many ways. If you haven't watched 13 Reasons Why, you should watch it now. You won't regret it.

With some of the flattest acting I've ever seen, i don't think I've ever hated the protagonist any other show i ever watched. The supporting characters are vapid and very archetypal.     on top of that NOONE in this show acts like a human being, reacts to situations like a human being or talks like a human being - they are all just products of a writer who watched highcschool comedy movies and thought THAT'S HOW LIFE WORKS while being absolutely oblivious to how things actually work

    everyone talks like a retard, many times leaving in the middle of a conversation for a dramatic effect that only gets old and bad with constant repetitions, most of the time people answer questions with more questions that moves the dialogue and story NOWEHERE, many scenes have NO IMPACT or a REASON to be there

    the only thing this show get's right is making the viewer feel like he is in the shoes of Hannah - CAUSE I WAS ACTUALLY CONSIDERING SUICIDE WHILE WATCHING

    the show NEVER even touches any serious topic because no one in it behaves like a human so it only looks like you are watching some amateur comedy - you don't feel anything but distain for EVERYONE - these characters are not human, you don't empathize with them, if anyone can actually feel anything but repulsion, disgust or hate towards any of these characters I seriously doubt their mental capabilities    … Expand

    It's not just the language that completely distracts me from the plot, but the behavior of some of these characters. If someone was suicidal, or looking depressed, and was half as good looking as Hannah Baker, they'd be getting almost annoyed with how many people would come up to them and ask what was wrong.

    By the way, the whole premise of a jock is vastly cliche, because nobody is casually going around wearing Letterman jackets in California.

    I rate this a 3 because it's interesting enough for me to keep watching. I don't exactly know why, though. Maybe I find enjoyment in identifying inaccurate portrayals of high-schoolers. Or laughing at some of the ridiculous dialogue choices. Overall, the issue with this show is that I can't clearly define the audience it tries to captivate. If It was made for 18-20 something year olds, it needs better dialogue and character development.    … Expand

    Primero que todo, la gente se pone ultra exagerada    La serie no es mala en si, solamente que no la recomiendo, ya que muchos no les va a gustar el desarrollo como tal de los personajes, cosa que estoy de acuerdo con la gente, muchas de las razones de que la cual la protagonista se suicida son muy tontas, pero no es hasta los últimos capítulos donde vemos que hace esta serie tan especial.

    Primero que todo, la gente se pone ultra exagerada al ver que tocaran temas de suicidio y violaciones, sobretodo, Netflix exagera también que con sus avisos que ponen antes de ver los 3 capítulos más fuertes (por dios gente, he visto hentais más traumaticos que ver al tipo precoz que se viene tan rápido con sus violaciones en la chicas que hay en esta obra). Es más, aquí los personajes me caen del culo, todos ellos, incluso el prota principal, es como ver de nuevo el mismo elenco para una serie de American Horror History, solamente lo hacen sad, sad y más sad por que son adolescentes que sufren en su etapa más precoz y "miserable" de su vida. Incluso, el personaje de Clay interrumpe las cintas en momentos muy absurdos, sacando excusas muy absurdas también, ya que no soporta ver si es verdad o mentira lo que esta diciendo la chica principal en la grabaciones, sabiendo que uno de los personajes, se escucho todas las cintas en una sola noche (te lo mencionan en la propia serie, hasta creo que fueron dos personajes).

    Pero que fue lo que me gusto aquí, la manera en como estructuraron la historia, hay veces que la edición no ayuda cuando pasan de una escena a otra, pero quitando ese aspecto de lado, la propia idea de poner 13 capítulos de las 13 razones del porque Hannah se suicido es creativa para el espectador, tomando incluso su buen tiempo para entender los propósitos de cada personaje. Y lo que salva la serie como ya he dicho anteriormente, son sus últimos capítulos, son los últimos momentos que hace que la serie sea tan especial.     The whole premise of show is ridiculous. The fact that she blamed others for her own suicide and is appalling. However, what's more disturbing is how blind so many people are to this and actively support and recommend this show. In addition to this, poor writing, obvious plot holes and a cliffhanger ending setting up for a second season just makes this entire show a complete waste of time

    Captivating from start to finish. I usually don't buy into any of this stuff like "feelings" and "emotions" but this one really did tug at the heart strings. Not since Marley and Me has a movie or TV show brought me so close to abandoning my man points and letting out a salty, sweet tear drop... just one mind you.

    13 Reasons Why es una serie que me obliga a romper un largo silencio en cuanto a cosas que veo. Lo primero que hay que entender con esta miniserie es que hay que tener mucho cuidado con a quién se la recomienda uno... es muy muy muy irresponsable decirle a todo el mundo que la mire. La serie en sí tilda tantas casillas en 'cosas que uno creando contenido no debería hacer nunca' que la convierte en munición para estupideces.

    Si vivieramos en un mundo donde pudieramos garantizar que nuestros hijos (o personas en un estado cercano a depresivo) no tienen acceso a esta clase de contenido sería mucho más simple hacer un análisis de la miniserie pero creo que el contenido es tán sensible´que es imposible separar lo uno de lo otro y más viviendo en una época dónde haciendo una búsqueda en google y dando tres clicks podés mirar lo que querés. El problema más grande de 13 Reasons Why es que depende del contexto de cada uno se le pueden dar interpretaciones muy oscuras.

    Básicamente 13 Reasons Why es acerca de una adolescente que tiene mucha mala leche, toma las peores decisiones posibles cada vez que se le presentan, nunca aprende de ninguno de sus errores, no sabe como pedir ayuda y aunque se arroja a situaciones de mierda una y otra vez cuando debería poner los huevos sobre la mesa con la única persona de la serie que vale la pena nunca dá un paso adelante.

    Más allá de las circunstancias, la vida de Hanna es una caricatura de todo lo malo que le puede pasar a una persona. Tan así que mientras miraba la serie no podía parar de imaginarme a quién quiera haya sido que escribió el libro en la misma situación que George Lucas con Indiana Jones en aquel memorable capítulo de South Park en que se lo viola arriba de un Pinball. Lo que hace este tipo con Hanna es una falta de respeto, se siente sadismo literario.

    Pero lo peor de lo peor es que la venganza de Hanna a través del suicidio es eficaz. El suicidio como método de castigo no debería jamás verse glorificado de la manera en que se vé en esta serie. Absolutamente todo lo malo que pasa cuando Hanna está viva se vé misteriosamente encarrilado después de que ella muere y aunque se podría decir que Clay es el ejecutor de su voluntad el plan sigue siendo el de Hanna y el suicidio el catalizador. Sin ir más lejos Clay, gracias a la muerte de Hanna, encuentra su redención y lugar en la sociedad... como verán es un concepto muy peligroso para exponer ante gente que puede llegar a estar pasando por un mal momento.

    Hanna hace tantas cosas mal que es muy díficil simpatizar con ella y encima las expectativas que tiene de la gente son totalmente irreales... por momentos pareciera que pretende que la gente que tiene alrededor (en especial Clay) le lean la mente y que actuén completamente fuera de carácter para complacerla. Ni hablar que algunos de los tapes son boludeces, en particular el de Clay, el chabón que le publicó el poema y el otro que le robaba los conejitos de la bolsa de papel.

    El autor también introduce la idea de que Hanna podría estar mintiendo cuando dice que lo vió a Zach tirar el papel, pero él todavía lo tiene y se lo muestra a Clay. Después de introducir esa idea no hace absolutamente nada con eso pero una de las escenas más claves es al final con Bryce y curiosamente es una escena donde ella es la única testigo y... ¿Se supone que le tenemos que creer 100%? Hanna quería que Bryce pague por lo que le hizo a Jess... ¿Quizás eso fué todo parte del plan? No hay mejor mentira que una que está rodeada de verdades pero lo cierto es que no sabemos porque EL PUTO AUTOR NO NOS CUENTA AL FINAL.

    Otra cosita más... quiero creer que aunque la muerte de la piba haya sido suicidio la policía científica hubiera encontrado los moretones y la evidencia de violación o al menos hubiera habido algún tipo de sospecha... se le ven claramente las marcas de los dedos en la espalda a la minita. Bleh... y Tony ni hablemos de Tony que empieza siendo un character re copado y después decepciona completamente... y Jeff... Jeff merecía otro final, hijo de puta.    … Expand

Overall the production it is acceptable, editing was superb and kudos to Kate Walsh who had a great performance, so much so that it feels from another series. Now the story, characters, and performances are STUPID. Yes, the reasons she had for killing herself are presented in an incredibly stupid way. And the aftermath of her suicide it's handled incoherently. It's unbelievable how this story passed so many filters to land on Netflix, and I think that the whole story hangs from the fact that she killed herself... of course... but, think about this: Imagine that she didn't kill herself, imagine she left those tapes and ran away and everyone assumes that she did kill herself. Now, through that lens every reason she had and interaction she made point major flaws in character development. I guess that the thesis the author tried to establish on his book was that every little act of indifference we perform can have a big impact on someone else's lives, But it crumbles once you develop it free of the guilt of her death. Hanna is emotionally manipulating everyone, she barely has any personality and her choices are unjustified. The parents are incredibly distant, the protagonist is a boy whose development its both incredibly stupid and incoherent (He is supposed to be a smart kid who jumps into savage conclusions and actions without hearing all the tapes... everyone else sat through the things in one night and this kid is annoyingly slow in every sense) ... and then ... there is Tony that awful character ruins everything he touches. Now... The Tapes... the series asks you to take an enormous leap of faith and assume that no one involved was like "F... this, ill call the police, or at least ... MY PARENTS". Clay's mom is a lawyer... (incredibly representing the school in a case where his son might be involved... another stupid plot point you just have to go with)... how come he didn't checked what she had to say. I'm I supposed to believe that you don't know if you killed this girl? Would you forget if you did something that might induce your crush to kill herself? Heck ! I bet everyone remembers if you were breathing wrong when your high school crush was around.... then how im i supossed to believe anything you say after this. In the end i think the entire series tries to blackmail the emotions out of you just like Hanna did with her mates. The rape scenes come out of nowhere and the point of the tapes falls flat when you realize how pointless the whole scheme is. Every character fails when trying to adquire dimension. It tried to be edgy and it ends up being stupid and insensitive. Its like the Pepsi commercial of TV shows... so Join the Conversation... I guess?… Expand

It's not bad since I kept watching, mostly to find out the reasons behind why these kids got sent the cassette tapes, but in the end I found myself wondering why most of them were even dragged into it or why they were so dramatic as to what was on the tapes.     By the by, cassette tapes? Do children even know these things exist? I'm surprised that 1) they know what these things are, and 2) that they each apparantly had some sort of cassette player available to listen to the tapes. Or did they all borrow the walkman from hip latino guy in a leather coat who thinks cassettes 'sound better'? Which nobody who ever listened to cassettes would say.

    It's a tv show, so I can understand not everything has to make total sense. But that one bugged me a little. Anyway, the mystery surrounding the reasons why all these characters has a hand in the suicide of Hannah is the main pull of the show. However as mentioned, the mysteries fall flat for many of these kids. That you are left to wonder why they are so worried about the tapes going public.

    For one of the characters the reason is simply, you stopped being my friend...... Oh nooo, can't let that go public. We must stop the main character who keeps asking everybody what's on the tapes (as opposed to, oh I don't know, actually listen to the tapes yourself to find out) from making too much noise. Or people will find out. The humanity.

    That the girl who committed suicide sounds all happy and chipper on the tapes, which is at a time where she already decided to kill herself, surprises no one? At the end, after the "big reveal", she even makes it a sort of game to find out if the counselor would follow her out of the door. I actually thought he was the one who did what happened to her, because of the way the children acted towards him during the season after they heard the tapes. And then we find out he didn't really do much either to warrant the contempt, especially since she's the one who told him that she wouldn't press charges which basically tied his hands.

    If this was a CW show, I wouldn't have been surprised. Considering it's from Netflix and has high ratings, I was however expecting a much better production than what I just watched. Don't get your expectations high, and it's still an ok show though. With some questionable characterisations.    … Expand

    Dealing with such a sensitive subject matter, it is inevitable that there will be some controversy. But that is exactly what our society needs, an open conversation. Suicide, rape, bullying, etc. are all uncomfortable topics, but they are reality, and sweeping them under the rug will not make them go away. I agree that this show is not perfect, but you have to applaud their ambition toDealing with such a sensitive subject matter, it is inevitable that there will be some controversy. But that is exactly what our society needs, an open conversation. Suicide, rape, bullying, etc. are all uncomfortable topics, but they are reality, and sweeping them under the rug will not make them go away. I agree that this show is not perfect, but you have to applaud their ambition to address these issues in an unrestrained and honest manner. The acting is exceptional and the storyline is intriguing, but above all else, the message is raw and real, a wake up call to an avoidant society. In some instances, Throughout the series you get to see the devastating effect that her message has on these individuals. but in some instances, I thought that the blame she placed on them was far more cruel than anything they had ever done to her. characters, Also, despite the fact that Hannah had a lot going for her (Caring parents, intelligence, charm, looks, etc), she definitely had some self-destructive tendencies and i wish they had made it clear that there were other ways she could have helped herself. Instead, the main theme of the show was about how these 13 people failed her which wasn't fair in a number of cases. As I said, I really think the series does a good job of making us more aware of how we treat others, but I do worry that a person who is depressed and/or a victim of bullying could watch this show and see suicide as a way to get back at someone. If back then, on one of my darker days I happen to watch this show, I know exactly what I would have thought. I would have thought, oh that makes sense. If I am going to kill myself I should let everyone who ever wronged me know what they did. Then they will totally regret everything and know it is their fault I am not alive. See cause when you are in that lonely place, you want people to know how you feel. You want them to see you. The thing is, life does not work the way it did in this fantasy tale. I could see this show easily being that one last thing to stir up the emotions and get someone to finally commit the act of taking their own lives. I remember watching the death scene in this show thinking, oh my god, they made that look so easy. So easy in fact, that I am sure deaths via slit wrists are sure to be on the rise in the next year or so. The creators of this show need to get their own morals checked before trying to impose their morals on everyone else in the world. They should be ashamed. There are millions of people suffering all over this globe right now. People without the luxuries Hannah had such as parents who loved her, a sound mind, a roof over their heads, food to eat, water to drink, and so many other things. The shows all about accountability right? People should realize that their actions have unforeseen consequences? Watching the show was a really harmful experiences and not because the drama in it. 13 Reasons Why recruits a bunch of barely unfriendly characters and creates an atmosphere of pity. But the huge disappointment gotta be Hannah Baker, the lack of empathy to Hannah was humongous, the show runners and writers surely thought that just because it deals with "all day lifestyle" was going to be good and attractive but it wasn't. Also they filled every episode with cliches and sometimes the dialog felt kind of repetitive and obscene. Yes the words that teenagers use but it seems that the writers gave up with just a few words and they were overused. Useless characters also hurt the show. I am talking to you Tony. Even though he was such a pivotal role to the storyline the script managed to make the character even useless giving him no actual backstory with Hannah more that just giving her the tapes. He was everywhere when the story needed him and it mostly didn't work. Ryan Shaver, Marcus Cole, Montgomery and Jeff were useful just to add a dull backstory and to supply more reasons to Hannah to kill herself, but they never felt actually painful. Hannah had such immaturity to serve the purpose to commit suicide, i never felt bad for her, and the actions weren't executed well to understand the pain of Hannah. Although the show had some highlights and they are Episode 1 and Episode 13, i really liked the first chapter, i was engaged with the story, there were some elements that i loved and it really promised something. The last chapter had great momentum with nice editing and soundtrack selection. But there were more lowlights for sure. 11 episodes that i can only describe my experience with this words, woeful and horrifying. The show in overall had great editing, decent performances and nice soundtrack. At the end i didn't have a great experience watching "13 Reasons Why" and that' why i do not recommend the show. I'll give this a 54 out of 100 and i am being really kind.
    I forgot to actually talk about Clay, he was the most okay thing of the season, i felt sorry for him but i also the most part of the time i didn't feel that Clay was actually in pain.    … Expand

    My 13 year old daughter watched this and told me about it. She said everyone in her middle school is watching it. I had never even heard of it, so I watched it. As a parent, I think it is way too mature for middle school kids. It is disturbing & very graphic.     First and the most important feat of any show - it keeps you hooked. You want to know what's next, you HAVE to.
    Second - actors. It probably depends on a viewer, but I felt like they did their job amazingly well: no character felt unnatural or without depth. I really appreciate that they actually went through with showing a lot more than I would like to see in some scenes.
    And on that topic, the credits are of course due to writers and directors. They got great material in the form of a book and they transformed it into very powerful, stunning scenes in the show.

    I would ramble more how great it is technically but I don't really know much about making shows so I'll just stop myself there. I will however say something from an emotional point of view.

    It was a brutal, but a beautiful experience. Watching this show basically put me out of my regular life for 3 days. It made me think a lot about my own life and all lives around me. It really was a mind and heart opening experience. I really recommend it to everyone.    … Expand

It was well written, it had excellent pacing, and it really captured the audience with all the things going on with Hannah, Clay, and all the other people in the show. It did a really good job of switching between past and present. Hell, I didn't even realize Jeff wasn't in any of the "present day" periods until the episode where he died. And then when I finally realized it, I was thinking about how he's probably going to die. Then it happened. It had a hook.

    As a mental health professional, there are a lot of unsettling things I saw here. I do believe it glorified suicide and romanticized the way someone goes through things in life to get to that point. It showed, graphically, the actual suicide. As someone that has seen a suicide and works in this field every day, it still made me cringe. That scene really got to me. There were also just so many times where I found myself shaking my head. The school counselor, for one, don't even get me started. There were so many places where an obvious conversation could have been had, because I've seen those happen. Am I saying it happens all the time? No. There are some truly tragic cases where the person who kills themselves tries everything and there isn't an opportunity for that help to come through. This wasn't one of them. It felt like those conversations that could have sparked Hannah getting help were forcefully passed over. Maybe people don't come into this kind of a show with the perspective that I have. But so many times I found myself thinking "could have said something there, could have intervened there." It just doesn't feel authentic in any way.

    Also not a fan of how they left themselves open to what seems like a school shooter season 2. There are plenty of great documentaries to address that issue, and the issues of teenage depression and struggles. I just don't think this show does a good job at that.

    Entertainment value strictly as a TV show - 9/10

    it s really amazing , the story is absolutly magnific and the end was shook . i really want season 2 . we can learn something from this. Caracters are really good , and If will bve a season 2 I want to see Selena in 13RW as a caracter not as a co-producter

    Everything wrong with this is in the writing. A 40 year old guy writing about overdramatic post-millennials. It's just not honest, though meticulously researched, and the viewer feels it the whole way through. The characters are caricatures. Rape works like deus ex machina here to justify Hannah's selfish, short-sighted behavior—sorry, it's true. I watched the whole thing, waiting to see the justification of her suicide, genuinely curious about it, because I had assumed the story was written by an honest writer—but in the justifications he selected you can see the writer clearly manipulating the narrative for emotional affect. One wonders if this whole thing wasn't calculated to check-off certain PC quotas.

    I mean I could be wrong. Kids of this age could all be whiny, dramatic, self-involved monsters with no sense of history or humility—but I tend to think that's just Hollywood's over simplistic deduction of post-Millennials, or the worst-case example (and coincidentally the loudest and most overrepresented in the media) of who some of these kids are.

    The fact that this is so well reviewed by people is really disturbing. It's like we suspend our critical faculties when our virtue signaling friends tell us we have to see the new "powerful" and "important" Netflix release (gag me). And then it's like dominos and nobody can state the obvious without being branded insensitive to the ridiculous trend of overhyping bullying, a trend dreamt up by out-of-touch adults attempting to manipulate the next course of young voters. Bullying has always existed. And given the hypnotized-by-PC nature of most post-millennials, I dare say they deal with a much LIGHTER and EASIER TO DEAL WITH form of bullying than other generations have endured. In fact, I'm certain of it.

    But you can't say that—because that information would give hope to post-Millennials, and reinforce in them the truth that high school is brief and completely unimportant to life in the end. Instead, we have to indulge the youth, convince them that what they suffer is infinitely worse than things other generations have suffered; we have to pill them up and tell them none of their problems can be overcome and romanticize and champion their suffering like they are heroes and heroines. It doesn't work. Heroes and heroines move stories, not characters that are chronically and irrecoverably broken, idiotic, forever miscommunicating, because of a meddling writer trying to make a statement by distorting them into fools. Oh if only Hannah and her oafish beau had communicated! Yeah, I know right. If only the writer had allowed two people we are told are bright and intelligent to be bright and intelligent. They might have been a hero and heroine then.

    This is the golden age of television, people! Demand more for God's sake. And learn to grow a guard against Hollywood "adults" (for lack of a better term) BRAZENLY manipulating you with a story that does not reflect real life but purports to. Or keeping mooing together, I guess.

    One of the Greatest TV Series of 21st Century with its strong message and true depiction on Teen suicide. The TV series has brilliant performances the whole cast with great use of film making techniques with a compelling script. A must see series for all the teenagers .

    The killing scene was totally unnecessary, it gives ideas of how and where to commit suicide. It brings everything in such a romantic way (A girl who suffered bullying, record 13 tapes and deliver to a person, enters the bathroom, fill up the tub, enters inside, think a little than cuts herself with a razor.     To a teenager who is suffering bullying at school, who is having troubles at home, who has been raped, it can be a trigger to solve their problems. Unfortunately, the series doesn't come with hope. Hannah went to every place possible to get help. Even at school they didn't cared. This is not how school or any place should be portrayed. There are some serious professionals at schools who really care about the kids and want to help. Plus, the attempt of trowing everything on the back of other teenagers, who had problems just like her (or worse, maybe, we can't judge feelings and problems size) is not a way to put the things.

    Suicide is not romantic. Bullying is not romantic. Rape is not romantic. It shouldn't be pictured in the way it was. In my Facebook timeline there are a lot of suicide news, which came just after this series. I don't think it is only a big, giant coincidence. BTW, I live in Brazil. Lots of people here (and just not here) are extremely influenced by these kind of shows.    … Expand

    I enjoyed this show, it made me sympathize with people that have been in Hannah's shoes as well as people that have been in the shoes of Clay and the other kids. I think everyone should watch this show.

However, most of the plot is on-the-nose, the writing and dialogue poor, and too much of the show is absolutely tone deaf towards the issues that you'd expect it to care about. I'll keep my complains short and just include the two things that bother me the most. Spoilers beyond this point.

    The author of this story seems to have some sort of wish-fulfillment issue. The central character is the nice guy who rarely does anything wrong. He's smart and sensitive and thoughtful. He's also the only character who finally does what should have probably happened immediately: he actually tries to get justice for two of his friends that were viciously raped, and two of his friends who are now dead -- and it's mad to think that none of the other kids in this situation would have acted before him.

    Beyond our protagonist being the only one who does the right thing, though, it seems that everyone has thing for him even though he's too shy for that stuff: the pretty cheerleader, the tortured Hannah who ultimately commits suicide (in part because she shunned him even though she loved him), the cool coffee house goth girl, even his wise, homosexual friend. It all reeks of wish fulfillment on the writer's part.

    But the most egregious sin of this cynical television show ... that it leaves itself open for a second season in the most exploitative way possible ... by suggesting that a supporting character, another victim of bullying, is going to go on a school shooting spree and we'll get "13 Reasons Why" he becomes a killer.

    No. Thanks. And shame on the people who let this pass as meaningful television. 13 Reasons Why is exploitative and cynical and I feel gross having sat through it all in hopes for something meaningful to come of it.    … Expand

    Well written overall, and the acting was surprisingly good given the young cast. Other tween shows should take note that teens can act and they have no excuse for producing bad shows/movies even if teens are the main subjects.

Its not as political as some reviewers make it out to be, certainly I did not feel very moved by this story but it was depicted in a believable way. The girl was flawed, very flawed, and she was placed in a an environment that was toxic which only made her spiral out of control. It can happen and teens, being irrational doorknobs, can come to the same conclusion as the girl. Ive seen bullying as depicted in this show and I have experienced it so I know its true or at least was 20 years ago. My sister in high school today does not seem thrilled with the experience either so I assume things like this still happen albeit (hopefully) not as frequently.

    It is a fairly depressing show overall. So if you are not into that sort of thing, definitely skip this. Most of the characters are not likable but that is intentional as many teens are not likable (to an adult). Some of them are, I certainly related to the protagonist who brought back a lot memories of my own experiences which is probably what this show is all about. The suicide stuff was central, but again, the show didnt really take sides except to say that we as people need to treat each other better. There is nothing wrong with this message.

    Give it a go if you get the chance. I am curious what they plan to do for season 2 though I suppose they did place some hints here and there.    … Expand

    Thumbs up for decent wring and well-cast 2 main characters, but does not reach potential. Thumbs down: repetitive and meandering middle of season episodes, 26 year olds cast as high school sophomores, ripped-from-the-headlines storyline and check-the-box for every teen malady imaginable.

    This drama beside the weeknesses in acrting,directing and other stuff, it was a heavy and alarting story. sth that force u to put away the artistic aspect of it and think deeply about the story,
    and do not forget, how ever your so protective, too much freedom could end badly. we should recounsider that

    This is a show you need to finish to understand. This characters in 13 Reason Why were depicted as cliches to begin with but as the episodes go on and the darker the show gets, the characters become detailed and such relate-able realistic characters.

    Clay’s conduct sometimes borders on the insufferable. And while Hannah’s traumas are authentically dramatized, she’s forced to endure so many indignities that, in total, she occasionally comes across as a symbolic vessel for an important message, rather than a flesh-and-blood human being. Fortunately, Langford’s wounded-yet-bold lead performance is altogether charming, and Minnette is equally credible.

    This story is sure to be devoured by teens who respond to its dark themes. But it could use a bit more leavening, acknowledging the reasons why life can be something more than apocalyptic.

    Langford and Minnette are the magnetic core of this drama. Separately and together, they have a dynamic chemistry that glows when they share the screen and energizes their scenes with others.
