007: Road to a Million is a hugely enjoyable ride that has plenty to offer. It just won't scratch the itch of a fandom waiting for the next actor in line to finally strap on the Walther PPK.

It’s great fun, which is a relief. The questions are just tricksy enough to stop the rest of us screaming every answer at the telly. It’s ravishingly and also daringly filmed.

007: Road to a Million is in many other ways just a conventional challenge-based reality show. But it makes the right moves to establish its Bond branding as a frame, and rejects much of the superficiality common to the genre.

Sadly, the episodes I saw are repetitive and dull. The early locations are all a bit Duke of Edinburgh award, and once you’ve seen one couple splashing about in a lake looking for a chrome suitcase, you’ve seen them all.

It is boring, soulless and derivative, too, of everything from Race Across the World to I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. .... But there is something more awful about the show than all of this. The worst thing is Brian Cox.
