Untitled Goose Game‘s consistent, simple themes are not dull by any stretch. In fact, the entire basis of the game revels in its simplicity, making this title easy to pick up, enjoy, and have a few laughs along the way. Completing one list of tasks left me yearning for the next list of hilarious assignments as I waddled to the next area. The only drawback to the game’s simplicity is that replayability is likely not in the cards once you’ve experienced all the quirky scenarios it has to offer. Still, Untitled Goose Game is great fun and completely worth its value for that one experience.

Yeah, there aren’t many original songs, and it can be tough to judge depth at times, but those are hardly even problems in the grand scheme of things. The gameplay is a joy, the visuals are gorgeous, polished, and charming, the music is lovely, and there’s a ton of content for a low price.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia really surprised me. What I thought would be a simple spin-off game ended up being arguably the best Fire Emblem game I’ve played. There’s more than enough new things to spice things up for series die-hards, and newcomers will enjoy things like being able to turn off “permadeath.” With some of the best presentation on the 3DS, Fire Emblem Echoes is a must own for RPG fans.

As one of the better head-to-head titles on Switch, it is perfect for some quick rounds when you and a friend have a few minutes to spare. It’s also deep enough for longer, more intense sessions. Windjammers is a surprisingly simple yet deliciously fun game, and if it’s multiplayer you’re looking for, this title belongs in your collection.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is my favorite multiplayer experience on the Nintendo Switch. Simply put, it’s addictive, fast-paced, chaotic gameplay will keep people coming back for a long time. I often sat down aiming to play a few rounds and then found myself glued to my switch for a few hours. While the story mode and other gametypes (except Fusion) are fun to play, the online mode is where I spent most of my time. Once the game launches and people start to buy Puyo Puyo Tetris, I expect the online community to be very lively. Not only is it a blast to play against other players, I think it will be a hit at parties. Since the Switch is a console that can be carried around, I predict that many people will be sitting around the table with friends for long periods of time. I expected to have fun with Puyo Puyo Tetris, but I didn’t think that it would be one of my favorite games to be released on Nintendo’s new console. If you decide to pick up Puyo Puyo Tetris, you’ll definitely be playing this for months to come.

Either way though, no matter if you played the original, if you want a beautiful, exciting, and well designed modern take on classic JRPGs, you will feel right at home with Bravely Second: End Layer.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is the definitive way to play this adventure, with quality-of-life improvements and new control options making it a much more accessible experience.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin breathes new life into the world of Monster Hunter. The shift to a turn-based RPG is handled so well, with an addictive and fast-paced combat system that's just as rewarding as traditional Monster Hunter. Complementing that is a genuinely engaging story full of wonderful characters, all rendered in an incredibly beautiful art style. Whether you're a newcomer or a series veteran, this is a must-play RPG.

Ni No Kuni II is an adventure filled with charm, featuring accessible mechanics and fun side-activities. The Nintendo Switch version is by no means the definitive way to play, but this is a solid port worth investing in for both newcomers and fans alike.

FAST RMX is arguably the 2nd best launch title on the Nintendo Switch right next to Breath of the Wild. The gameplay is fast and responsive, the presentation is gorgeous, and at $19.99 is the best value on the Nintendo Switch. If you are a fan of games like F-Zero or Wipeout, or racing in general, FAST RMX should be on your Nintendo Switch without a doubt.

Genesis Noir is a brilliant story of love, loss, and cosmic forces that provides an amazing experience despite its flaws and performance issues on Switch.

Despite a few faults, Corpse Party is an excellent horror adventure title that fans of the genre should not miss out on. I’ve not played anything quite like it before, and as such, it firmly stands near the top of my list of favorite horror games.

In the end, a terrific battle system and great art direction just aren’t enough to save Ruined King: A League of Legends Story from its lackluster narrative, clunky UI, and a wide spectrum of bizarre technical issues on Nintendo Switch. Hardcore League of Legends fans and hardcore RPG mechanics enthusiasts will still enjoy the game, but everyone else is better off playing something else this holiday season.

Despite a few issues with map design and clunky dungeon controls, SteamWorld Quest is a gem of a game, and a must-play for anyone with a Nintendo Switch.

Basically, Etrian Odyssey Nexus perfectly satisfies its target audience, and it doesn’t try to do anything else.

Disc Room is a shining example of how developers can take a simple concept and elevate it into something extraordinarily magical. It's obvious that the team behind it put a lot of love and effort into its creation, and it shows. If you're even the slightest bit interested in Disc Room, you should give it a try.

Maybe Stick It To The Man is just a simple platformer with only slightly challenging puzzle elements that can be finished in a couple of hours, but thanks to its quantity and quality of humor and jokes, to me it was one of the best eShop experiences I’ve played on my Wii U.

Affordable Space Adventures is an indie title with a $20 price tag, and that may make some would-be purchasers leery of the investment. I can say with full confidence that the price tag is not only justified, but might even be too low.

While some people may not like the older sort of play style, I think it works great in this game. Couple that with a good story, mostly solid graphics, and an excellent musical score, and Dragon Quest VII is yet another “must-own” JRPG on the Nintendo 3DS.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair marries a variety of platforming mechanics in a meaty campaign with tons of challenges ahead. It’s as polished as it is focused and as true to the genre as you can get. Now, sign me up for the next one.

Not only do they add to an already great experience, but they made the game feel fresh. Rin’s introduction to the storyline added a whole new dimension to the already twisted love triangle, while Remix mode did the same for the puzzles. It is a little disappointing, however, that Catherine: Full Body didn’t quite solve the issues its takes on transgender people created in the original. That said, if you haven’t played Catherine before, now’s a great chance to jump on the train. If you have, Catherine: Full Body is certainly worthy of the encore.

Rogue Legacy has found a loving home on Switch. If you have played Rogue Legacy before, and want just a bit more of it in your life, a portable version is a great pick-up. If you have not tried it before, the Switch edition is a perfect entry point.

Metro Redux is one of my favorite shooters on the market. The survival horror aspect, while not quite taken far enough for my liking, still provides a fantastic setting to explore. While there is almost nothing revolutionary about these games, what's present is of a high caliber. If you're a fan of shooters, I'd certainly recommend adding this to your library.

Crash Team Racing was a giant in its day, and now, 20 years later, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has reasserted the original’s greatness. It is a faithful rebuild of one of the most beloved kart racers from an era that had greats such as Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart 64. Behind a fresh coat of paint, a great soundtrack, and a lot more tracks, Crash’s racing adventure holds up pristinely and is worth a look for any fan of kart racing.

Since it’s polished in almost every regard with its gameplay and presentation, it’s possible Children of Morta would’ve benefited from a more focused design direction rather than a rogue-lite dungeon-crawling experience. Nevertheless, in a sea of games for the rogue-lite genre, it’s refreshing to see developers do something unique and tell a meaningful story. The emotional heights that the game reaches goes farther than many narrative-focused games. If you’re looking for a story-driven ARPG, then Children of Morta needs to be at the top of your list.

If you missed Resident Evil 4 over the last fifteen years, don’t wait any longer to play this gem. Even in 2019, I find myself engrossed by RE4’s dark, uneasy setting, its addicting gun progression, and incredible action-horror gameplay. It’s a game that changed the action-adventure genre forever, and for the most part, has stood the test of time.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a treat for fans of the puzzle genre. While its combat is flawed and some power-ups overpowered, it has intriguing solutions to a myriad of enigmas. If that is all you want out of a series that is known for its mysteries, then pick up the latest entry. It will keep you guessing and pondering until the credits roll.

Overall, you’re getting a massive amount of content in Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection, with the port of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag being one of the more impressive examples of an open-world game on Nintendo’s handheld and Assassin’s Creed Rogue being worthy of a playthrough if you haven’t yet played it. The collection features two complete open-world experiences that are still a joy to play.
