While the platforming gameplay is presented well, and the moves are varied and fun, the difficulty and the lack of save spots can be frustrating.

The gameplay really doesn't dazzle, and with several other fantastic FPS games out there, it's a wonder the developers let this one go in this condition. Vietcong: Purple Haze is flat as a board.

Take away all of the hype, hyperbole, and this game’s celebrated lineage, you are still left with what can only be considered a masterpiece of gaming.

We as gamers crave unique experiences and perspectives in our games and this one delivers. About the only people I can imagine not enjoying this game are die-hard cat people (Dog’s rule, by the way). Give this game a chance, you won’t regret it.

The only downside is that there isn’t as much to Gradius V as there is to some of its competition (R-Type Final, for example) in terms of variation and replay value, but the key element of Gradius V is its challenging and fun gameplay.

The enjoyment dies out after about two or three more missions though, and the game becomes repetitive all the way up until the end.

Yes, a little innovation scattered here and there would be great and maybe a few more difficult aspects thrown in for older fans of the show, would have been appreciated, but this game does so much right, that it’s hard to complain too much. Fans of the show or parents of fans of the show will certainly enjoy this homage to the FOP.

A slightly above average children's platforming game that delivers a fair amount of fun. Its good points are that it is an easy and enjoyable gaming experience, its negative aspects are that it just could have been so much more, while yet maintaining its ease of play.

While not stunningly different, the new combat system, improved controls, and unique pacing in the game make this one fresh and involving.
