Ultimately this is sold as a game app, and on that level it fails abysmally, being neither accessible nor interesting. It’s something you might play a few times for its value as a historical and human curio, but then forget. And given the relatively high price, such a short lifetime means it can’t be recommended as a value for the money.

I honestly had high hopes going into Cabela’s Big Game Hunter, since my previous excursion was such a surprising amount of fun. Also because of the name attached to it. I’d expected one of the biggest names in hunting games to produce something that would at least rival what’s already available. Unfortunately, that’s just not the case.

Unfortunately this version is let down by annoying controls, weird audio glitches and multiple crashes – meaning this is hard to recommend unless you’re one of the biggest Blade Runner fans out there. And even then…

Barmark is an experience, and if you enjoy staring at nice visuals or like using your iPad as a living photo frame, then Barmark is something you might be interested in. But to anyone else looking for an actual game to play, keep on moving.

Maleficent Free Fall does present one interesting idea: Power-up fuel is drawn from a well of magic that replenishes after levels. Alas, spells require a great deal of magic to perform, and your resources refill slowly.

Ultimately, it’s a weird mishmash of different elements. The base building stuff is all a little too lacklustre and like something you’ve played before. Recruiting new crew members is briefly fun, but you’ll never feel like you get to know them. Similarly, your decision making might feel initially satisfying, but you’ll soon realize that you don’t get to affect as much as you want. All put together, and Valerian: City of Alpha doesn’t quite work. Its main saving grace is that at least it’s not an overly safe film-tie in.

Ultimately there’s a stack of more endearing and enjoyable arcade action style titles to play on your Switch than this.

The 3D is consistently ugly and the character animation is shoddy and occasionally non-existent. It just all makes the game a deeply unpleasant title that you don’t ever feel any desire to invest your time in.

It's frustrating. Still though, if you want to see something new, I won't stop you from downloading it. It's a good game, it just needs some kinks ironed out.

I.C.U.P.'s sharp, cartoonishly exaggerated visual style looks good, but that's not nearly enough to save it. Without the bugs, this would be at the low-end of franchise cash-in mediocrity; with them, it's just plain bad.

Fans of the little blue guys might get a kick out of playing Smurf Life for a few minutes, but they might also find the quests too tedious or confusing to complete. Chances are good that they'll retreat back to Smurf Village, and Papa Smurf's latest contribution to the Smurf race will die nameless and alone.

Ultimately, The Croods is a slow, mediocre game that doesn’t require you to do much beyond tap the screen on occasion. Only the littlest fans of the movie will get anything out of it—and you might want to turn off in-app purchases before you let them get too far.

A quirky little tool, and it's nice to see more people attempt to utilize the iOS cameras in gameplay, but this is far from the supreme ghost fighting experience that many of us have been waiting for our entire lives. It's a fun gimmick to show your friends, but the novelty disappears faster than a Slimer in broad daylight.

Nakama's issue is with its unbalanced gameplay and awful controls. It may well be possible to turn this title around and fashion it into something enjoyable, but that would require massive overhauls to a number of the game's core mechanics. As it stands, Nakama isn't an experience I can recommend.

Puzzle Knights is one of those games that feels like a good idea, but it manages to prove itself otherwise nearly every step of the way. Players looking for an exciting new match-three puzzle game are better off playing just about anything else they can find on the App Store. As for the combat, there's hardly anything that makes it a worthwhile experience.

Releases like The Bachelor are what give licensed games a bad name. It feels like what it is, a cash-in looking to take money from fans of the show, giving them nothing more than a lackluster experience in exchange. I'm not even a fan of the show, and I felt pretty jipped, if I were a big fan I think I'd be downright upset about it!

If you’re wondering just what redeeming features Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire may have, it’s mostly down to the visuals. There’s an occasional glimpse of something that does feel quite Final Fantasy-ish. Even if it’s just an animated chocobo. That makes it a teensy bit better than most other games of this ilk, but it’s a really small amount. You know when you’re trying to convince your non-mobile games playing friends that there are some good freemium games out there? This is the kind of thing they’ll throw in your face to counteract your argument. They almost have a point.

While there are a ton of equipment options, skill trees, and other back-end options, the things that really matter-combat, navigation and story-leave a lot to be desired. The game is free so you're not going to be out any money, but time is a more precious resource. Save it and pass on Illusia II.

While a few of the later environments are nice to explore, the bafflingly bad controls will dissuade you from even wanting to, and the lack of any clear direction or purpose as an adventure game makes Return to Castlerama better rolled up in another scroll and left somewhere where no one is going to read it.

MULE Returns is also riddled with bugs – one of which, an inability to re-enter the store to upgrade MULEs later in the game, is a complete showstopper that ruins the game when it crops up.

Final Fantasy: All the Bravest is a game that only longtime fans could love, and only because it's a sprite and music dump of past titles. At the same time, it's a slap in the face of those fans with its shameless in-app purchases.

Even though there are no technical flaws or performance issues with Coin a Phrase, it's very hard to justify a smooth-running game that packs in so little, and that's about as fun as its graphics are bland.

While I've definitely seen worse, Big Hollow Princess is still a pretty good example of a corporate cash-in. It's current place near the top of the App Store charts nearly justifies their practice, too: people will buy anything as long as it has the Adventure Time name on it.

Unfortunately, the team at the fledgling Monstars Inc. has a lot to learn about this platform if they want Kotomon to join the ranks of their other titles. As it stands now, I find myself stressed at the end of one level, dreading the beginning of the next, and ultimately, pressing the home button pretty quickly.

It's sad that the game's approach is buried under a sea of boredom, technical issues, and the ability for some players to get stuck in a daily loop of waiting. Patience is a virtue, but that patience feels much more rewarding when you're waiting for a fun game.
