If you’re a fan of point and click games, you will not be disappointed with what The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 has to offer you. With a staggering 25-30 hours of gameplay, fully voiced characters, excellent soundtrack, great visuals and incessant hilarity (that may or may not warrant the odd groan) there really is very little to complain about here.

After experiencing the finished product, I’m pleased to see that Pankapu turned out to be such a charming and worthwhile adventure.

While Sniper Elite 5‘s campaign feels a little familiar, and largely more focused on sneaking than sniping, we can’t help but be impressed by the overall package. With co-op, competitive multiplayer modes and a new invasion mechanic, Sniper Elite 5 has something for everybody. And a range of difficulty settings make it suitable for all skill levels. So, unless you go into it expecting to snipe everything that moves, chances are you won’t be disappointed.

Sure, it can be a fairly short experience, but providing you engage with it in the way the game intends you to, Herald is a fantastic experience.

Colourful, ridiculous and great fun, we’ve had a whale pigeon of a time with Headbangers: Rhythm Royale. Giving a musical twist the battle royale genre works surprisingly well, making a multiplayer game that’s more accessible than most – even if you’re not super competitive. We do wish there was a way to play locally – this would make an excellent local party game – but the inclusion of bots means the game can stay alive even if its playerbase dwindles. We hope it doesn’t, though.

I enjoyed this game hugely myself, but I couldn’t get my nine year old son to put it down! It really is a title that will appeal to all ages. I can’t help but recommend Tiny Troopers: Joint Ops to everyone, especially fans of the old Cannon Fodder games. The game is tremendous fun and will keep you playing for a long time to come. It’s easily some of the best fun I have had with my Xbox One.

If you enjoyed Escape Academy, Escape from Anti-Escape Island is an absolute no-brainer. This is a sizeable addition, adding in five new rooms filled with brand new, extra-challenging puzzles. Yes, some of them may frustrate you as you hunt for the solution – but that’s the whole point. Fighting your way off this tropical island from hell is incredibly satisfying, and we only hope Coin Crew Games has more expansions – or even a sequel – up its sleeve for the future.

As good as it has ever been, but if you’ve already played it on one of the numerous formats it’s already available on, it’s probably not a high priority to play again.

If you thrive when immersed in a rich narrative and like the idea of shaping the life of a youngster growing up on an unknown planet, then I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is for you. This narrative RPG may be slow-paced, and its narrative can get rather dark at times, but it’s excellently written and filled with heart. Add to that some truly stunning artwork, and you’ll be compelled to see exactly how this teenage exocolonist’s life turns out – time and time again.

When the simple gameplay mechanics of timing, precision and memory merge together, it creates an absolutely thrilling and tense experience.

Available at a budget price on PC, you’ll be hugely impressed by its visuals, and while some scenes feel like filler, you’ll feel the urge to push on to discoverer Jodie’s, and Aiden’s, ultimate fate. Like any Quantic Dream tale, the narrative is sometimes ham-fisted, but it’s still head and shoulders above what’s offered by most videogames, making the time spent with Beyond: Two Souls something you’ll remember.

Plants vs Zombies Replanted is the same game you know and love, albeit with a shiny new veneer. Some games don't get old, and providing you're in the mood for something laid-back and casual, protecting your garden from zeds is as much fun as it's ever been.

Galar is simply a joy to explore.

Despite its few missteps in repetition and a few bland design choices that stand out amidst a wash of personality, there’s no denying just how much fun this game is.

If you like the idea of thrill-seeking but you’d rather do it from the comfort of your living room, Riders Republic should be right up your street. This is pure entertainment at its finest; a game that’s all about having fun, living in the moment, and not taking life seriously. Play it straight and try to win every race if you want. Or simply speed around dressed in an inflatable giraffe costume. It’s your choice, and that in itself is the beauty of Riders Republic.

It may not have the cutting-edge visuals of its full-fledged source material, or its open world, but it certainly has its soul.

It’s not the best way to enjoy it, but if you don’t mind the blurry visuals and reduced performance then the Switch version of Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is just about as good as any other. The biggest downside is the absence of split-screen co-op, which is understandable but disappointing nonetheless. Still, with the core gameplay intact and all post-launch content included, this is one of the best shooters currently available on Switch without any doubt. And even better, it’s suitable for all ages and skill levels.

Persona 5 Tactica is yet another brilliant outing for the Phantom Thieves. We haven’t enjoyed it quite as much as the original Persona 5 or Persona 5 Strikers, but its combat, which is relatively fast-paced and exciting for the genre, has won us over. This is a must-have for anyone that wants to spend more time with Joker and co. And while it’s undoubtedly better to be familiar with the exploits of the Phantom Thieves, it remains welcoming to tactical role-playing fans on the whole.

The retro graphics are primitive but they have a certain charm… and the 80’s style synth soundtrack which provides an eerie, moody, and darkly relaxing tone.

Everything about Deep Sky Derelict seems to have been done right, from the synthwave soundtrack to the lore to the unusual combat system. It’s rare that a game with procedural elements holds my attention for long, and rarer still that an RPG can show me something new.

With a wonderfully designed setting, it’s hard not to love Pokémon Sword.

Aside from occasionally getting lost, every moment spent with this short adventure game is a joy. You’ll see the credits roll in less than six hours, but you’ll likely be itching to jump back in and continue exploring after that. The harpoon makes for a unique and useful weapon; whether you’re using it to destroy your foes or to transport yourself across the screen, it’s a fluid and rewarding experience. One of the first games of 2021 I’ve sank my teeth into, Olija certainly has set the bar high.

If you love side-scrolling beat ’em ups, consider Mayhem Brawler a must-have. Though even those who have simply dabbled with the likes of Streets of Rage or Final Fight should also check it out. This is, without a doubt, one of the best examples of the genre, and a fun game to play alone or with friends or family members while sat on the couch. We can only hope that Hero Concept follows up with a sequel. Because as a first attempt, there are solid foundations here for something special.

For fans of puzzles and point and click adventures, there’s so much to love in Bilkins’ Folly. Sure, it may leave you stumped from time to time, but its charming pixel art and lovable characters are enough to keep you invested. With a solid sense of progression, plenty of islands to explore and so much content to sink your teeth into, it’s a must-play for any wannabe treasure hunter.

For roguelike fans with rhythm, Beat Slayer will no doubt prove to be a bit of a treat. It has a beautiful art style, a soundtrack that will get your foot tapping, and gameplay that draws you in and holds your attention like a vice. It perhaps doesn’t do anything new or original outside of incorporating a rhythm element, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Just put some headphones on, start a new run and enjoy busting up some robots to the beat.

Made by solo developer and ex-Housemarque programmer Kimmo Lahtinen, Sektori is the closest thing you're going to get to the sweet rush of the likes of Resogun without revisiting Housemarque's back catalogue. It's tough as nails, but with eye-melting visuals and fast-paced twin-stick shooter action, you simply won't be able to get enough of it.

Even if you’re not the type to want to fill your Pokédex or endlessly hunt for shinies, Pokémon Sword‘s charm is enough to keep you engaged until after the credits roll.

There’s no denying that Deliver Us The Moon is an excellent sci-fi adventure. It gets the balance of puzzles, exploration and storytelling just right, and the narrative running through it is one that will keep you invested until the credits roll. It’s a great-looking game, too, and on the latest hardware, it looks even better than ever. DualSense features would have been nice for the PS5 version, but it’s hardly a dealbreaker. Go on: go deliver the moon. You won’t regret it.
