A fairly good RPG. Nothing stands out about it, nothing incredibly amazing has been done with it, but it is a serviceable and enjoyable game if you're a fan of the genre.

There's a fairly limited amount of strategy involved too, because a bigger katamari can't always access smaller areas, but most of the time you're just happily rolling your ball along without ever feeling bored, not even for a second.

From the lush visuals and sound, to the solid, stable gameplay mechanics, to the way in which Tolkien's world was so faithfully and respectfully brought to the PC, this is a quality experience.

While there will always be that nagging suspicion that more could have been done with the story (seriously, only 11 missions??), there are so many fun little things to explore that it really should be considered a success.

Playing through the game a second time as the polar opposite of your first character can be fun, just to see how the in-game people react, but personally I didn't feel too motivated to do it, considering how the story had already unfolded in its entirety.

Make time for LeChuck's Revenge because, even after nearly 20 years, it's still funnier, more clever, and well-written than the vast majority of "blockbusters" lining the digital shelves.
