Into The Breach is a challenging turn-based strategy game that features a competent gameplay and a wide variety of levels. While it could certainly use a more elaborate plot and some more weapon tutorials, it's safe to say that this rather orthodox work will appeal to fans of strategy games looking for something that follows the genre's main tenets.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a rather surprising and very enjoyable 2D platformer that openly dresses the skin of a metroidvania-style of game, with a well-structured experience, a high quality cartoon-like art style and well implemented gameplay mechanics. It does not reinvent the wheel when it comes to 2D platformers but it certainly does a very good job at delivering a quality metroidvania type of game.

Gunman Clive’s transition to the Wii U brings virtually the same two games that were previously released on the 3DS with almost nothing else to present other than a technically competent HD conversion and remarkable sound upgrade. Beyond that, there’s nothing else to point out: a simple compilation, that’s what Gunman Clive on the Wii U is all about.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright could very well be an outstanding chapter in a series that is cherished for its narratives and gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately Birthright falls down before it reaches its goal. Its very good production values and sharp combats openly clash with an uninspired and dull narrative, poorly implemented difficulty curve, generic and empty characters and the simple fact that it just doesn't work as a stand alone game in the first place.

A rhythm game requires intuitive controls and a good sense of progression and Thumper provides both. Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling was made as a tribute to the Paper Mario series and in an attempt to recapture the spirit of the first game of the series. While Bug Fables does not succeed in this purpose, it does deliver a good game, with an addictive combat, well structured plot (and a lot of dialogues), as well as game world that's a marvel to look at. So while the more spiritual goal to pay tribute to Nintendo's series went off the mark, the secondary objectives to make a good game are undoubtedly successful.

This remaster of one of the most influential games of the last generation gets the basics right but fails in other important aspects. The sound quality is quite weak and it delivers a visually inferior performance compared to the other versions of the same remaster, which cannot be justified with the Nintendo Switch hardware. However, truth of the matter is that it gives Nintendo players the chance of getting their hands on this marvelous work for the first time, with the added bonus of playing it wherever they want. This point and click adventure is rich in humor and plot, with a top-notch vocal work and two different control systems, whether it's played on a television screen or on the Switch screen. While its difficulty is sometimes off the mark on some puzzles and some of the missions are too easy, fans of point and click adventures will undoubtedly have a very good time with Nelly Cootalot.

Trials Rising is a very fun effort that is indissociable from the high difficulty level of the Trials series. The level editor is a major plus which makes the game's lifespan stretch for longer but at the same time, this release on the Nintendo Switch is riddled with technical problems that should be fixed as soon as possible through updates.

The Bug Butcher draws on the much beloved 2D shooters of the 1980s and 1990s to deliver an experience that is not only visually marvelous but also brings simple and fun gameplay mechanics and a completely absurd and well-written humour. The game is set to be enjoyed for a long time and any fans of the genre and beyond should definitely check out this piece of work.

Like its name suggests, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition for the Nintendo Switch intends to be the ultimate edition of the game that was originally released on the Wii U. This definitive edition certainly features several added values, including new maps and characters that make it a worthy game to look into. Where this definitive edition disappoints, though, is on its occasional performance issues when played as a handheld.

Translating M.C. Escher’s mind-bending works into a game leads to The Bridge, a game whose puzzles, mechanics and visual presentation fit perfectly into the artist’s legacy. It does exaggerate on its difficulty level, which can make progression too demanding for many players.

Jamestown+ is a Nintendo Switch conversion of one of the finest shoot'em-ups of its generation. With its addictive, frantic gameplay and fun cooperative mode, Jamestown+ is a delightful game but those who have already played it elsewhere will find only marginal benefits to the experience.

Race the Sun offers a simple yet addictive and frantic-paced old-school racing action. The level design fits perfectly with its style and the ever-changing shape of the levels in 24-hour cycles adds a very welcome touch of challenge. Shame for the lack of a multiplayer mode, given the means available.

Horizon Shift '81 is a proper tribute to the 1980s-style space shooters, featuring most of the style's conventions and an assortment of contemporary add-ons that make it a very appealing game for hardcore enthusiasts. With its simple and intuitive gameplay, visual art style and customization options, it only lacks a multiplayer and an online component to tick all the boxes in the checklist.

Debris Infinity successfully brings the players back to a simpler time of arcade-style shoot'em ups, with its intuitive gameplay topped with multiplayer features. The game also adds some very necessary contemporary features, such as its very useful real time updated online leaderboards. Debris Infinity will have a harder time convincing players who are interested in aspects other than the 1980s revivalism and achieving high scores, but it does a competent job at what it proposes.

La-Mulana knows how to be tough and demanding but dedicated players will find a game that has an interesting plot, a marvelous visual environment that's inspired on the 16-bit era, an exquisite soundtrack and very engaging puzzles. Not all players will be lured, due to some puzzles leading to frustrating moments but fans of Metroidvania-type games have a real gem here for the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is an invitation to explore the first six Mega Man games and it succeeds at striking a chord both with longtime Mega Man fans and with those less familiar with the series. As good as this compilation is, it could only be improved by fixing frame rate drops in certain busy areas and with more content, especially more games of the Mega Man series which could have easily been included in this title.

Tiny Barbarian DX is clearly a tribute to the 8 and 16-bit era of action platformers and it's a competent game at that, thanks to very sharp controls and a good lifespan. Where it fails is on its charisma, or lack thereof, as its levels turn out to be too generic and its difficulty level can be way too high for many players, not to mention its relative lack of content beyond the main campaign mode.

Nintendo finaly gets its Minecraft, delivered onto the Wii U's eShop and how does it add up? It's Minecraft, nothing else to add - and it doesn't build up on the other versions available. It's the same unlimited and never-ending building game but it doesn't fully make use of the Wii U's capabilities.

Its gameplay remains as demanding as it was, which will delight Flashback's fans and possibly frustrate more recent players who are not used to this kind of old school difficulty.

Morbid details and shocking sights aren't everyone's cup of tea but for the players who are into horror, Corpse Party will be a blessing in the 3DS catalogue. Even if its gameplay will lose its effect after a while and become a bit repetitive, the game's dialogues, plot and audiovisual environments will keep the players focused for long periods of time, especially with the purpose of reaching that one good ending (which will require some effort).

Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut does not stand out as much as its predecessor did, which is no shame as this is a game that features a good balance between exploration of locations and backtracking and Shantae's magic spells and transforming skills are delightful. It could go further on the boss fights and in terms of content but that doesn't stand on its way of being a very enjoyable game for those who like exploring and backtracking in a metroidvania style.

Tappingo 2 is less of a follow up and more of an expansion of the original. While it presents a decent price/contents relation, its dearth of new ideas and frustrating controls will keep most of the public away. Still, for those who enjoyed the original and who are into a Picross-style of gameplay, Tappingo 2 can be a fun and entertaining choice, even if for a short timeframe.
