Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik does what he does best. His portrayal is over-the-top funny and clearly, Carrey is in his element. It reminds me a lot of Fire Marshall Bill.
  1. This short but powerful film is extremely important in the MAGA era when all our civil rights victories as a nation are constantly in danger of being overturned. I also think it’s important for people to know that the true message of Christianity is love and acceptance, despite however many of the religion’s followers have twisted it to the contrary.
  2. Despite all the flaws, Sputnik has one chief thing going for it: it holds your attention, from the first (and arguably best) twenty minutes, to the last (and arguably worst) twenty.

The performers all fall effortlessly into their slapstick roles and the troubadour duo -- the film's Greek chorus -- adds a delightfully poetic touch.

As far as thrillers go, The Night Clerk is a little light on thrills. That said, there are more interesting things going on, which makes the film worth watching.

All of the performances are at least solid, and for an indie, the production value is impressive. It won’t reduce you to a weeping mess, but at 78 minutes it’s a trim, satisfying drama that does justice to its inspirations.
  3. St. Agatha is a fine thriller that is much better than you will expect it to be. Bousman guides a coherent and nimble narrative to shocking and satisfying builds.
  4. Never less than clever and often digs down into some uncomfortable realities about the strange lives of that odd species known as “movie people.”
  5. Brute 1976 is no X, but it is a solid if clichéd slasher. The cast is meh, with two exceptions, but the sheer amount of death and bloodshed provides a cathartic release. Then the ending happens, and the movie proves to have a shocking amount of staying power.
  6. This documentary is a great look into the personal lives of Chatwin and Herzog, and for that, it is worth seeing.
  7. So who did kill the electric car? There are many suspects, and as it turns out, most of them are guilty.
  8. Gracefully directed by Fried Green Tomatoes and Justified director Jon Avnet, Three Christs is a great dark comedy about a dark subject. I can’t say enough how great the performances are. It’s a relevant character study on those who suffer from mental illness and the ones who treat it and why they do.

A very creative documentary that takes a seemingly dull topic and makes it entertaining.

It's the kind of movie you watch on a rainy Saturday night with a glass of wine and a fire crackling in the fireplace. It's a film that's meant to be contemplated, but not discussed. And it's all about what happens when you take the easy way out.
  9. Bit of melodramatic grandstanding that it is -- is made irrelevant by Washington's volcanic energy and fierce conviction.
  10. See You Then isn’t perfect, but it is sincere. Its aim is true, and the message of evolution, healing, and growth is sorely needed.
  11. I like this film because of its nuances and hilarious banter and dialogue, which speak to the soul, not just what’s happening on screen.

Valkyrie just misses out on being a great film (it’s no Black Book), but it easily merits mention as a good one.
  12. The film reveals a man whose wiry build, relentless passion, fearless guile, and bravery made him a beloved human rights activist in his strife-ridden country.
  13. A beautifully told, deeply personal story ... for people who can dig the mumblecore.

The film is good and will appeal to fans of the genre, but doesn’t do enough to transcend it, which is what you hope when you watch dozens of Rom-Coms every year and when you want to broaden the appeal of your film altogether.
  14. A bit more pragmatic, rambling, less lyrical, and not as laser-focused as Herzog's previous documentaries.
  15. Some might perceive City of Men as a slow film, while others could reasonably argue that Morelli is taking more time to develop characters.

Flight Risk is a fun yet simple and straightforward thriller where you have a general sense of where things are headed at first, and then Gibson pulls in a surprise or two or three.
  16. If you’ll forgive the silly first and second acts and dig into the main dish of Asian Persuasion, your patience will be rewarded.
  17. Go with the somewhat far-fetched concept, get past the overt sentimentality, and you’ll find a true crowd-pleaser.

Angel of Mine is a good movie for fans of the dysfunctional family melodrama. Primarily from the performances from its leads and a strong story that holds together to the end. The thrills are thrilling but sadly never gets to Fatal Attraction level outcomes.
  18. Although Penn is the focal point of Citizen Penn, the real citizens of this story are the Haitians. They are resilient, optimistic, and refuse to be labeled as victims. I do wish that we got to meet some of them a bit more intimately, that Hardy delved a little deeper into Haiti’s sociopolitical history. As it stands, it functions as a perfectly serviceable call to action, an extended, heartfelt PSA that neither glamorizes nor demonizes the actor.
  19. Diallo’s dramatic horror film is rich with atmosphere and subtext and deserves recognition, despite its narrative shortcomings.
