    The Solus Project does what it sets out to do — immerse you in a dangerous environment for a dozen or so hours and task you with surviving long enough to experience the story. While I wish there was a bit more to the plot, and while the controls frustrated me, it’s a fairly solid exploration and survival game. The VR component makes it worth investing some time in.

    Ganryu 2 succeeds in its goal to continue the legacy of the arcade, however, it’s dragged down by the shackles that come with it. Its failure to take inspiration from modern games means that it struggles to compete with contemporaries. The presentation is stunning and the levels are well designed, varying throughout. However, the stiff movement and lack of continues can make this a laborious experience.

    Hangry Bunnies From Mars is an enjoyable game in short bursts. There isn’t much variety in it, you just kill bunnies. It is a bit above average as far as wave shooters go in VR, since shooting feels goods and weapons are fun. The reality is that while it is a fun diversion from time to time, it isn’t much else.

    Tomb Raider Reloaded has a lot of potential. Overall, it needs more focus on smoothing out the last of its gameplay issues and less on the progression hooks. Opening the app to that cluttered menu only reminded me that I can get the best parts of Reloaded elsewhere. The same goes for Lara herself.

    Mario Party: The Top 100 is an attempt to recapture the favorite mini-games of our youth and offer it in portable form. While the games themselves play well and the ones they selected are all top notch, without having any solid structure or unlockables, the game quickly loses interest and goes from being the latest party game to being the best time killer you could possibly get on the 3DS.

    In the end after investing a lot of time I liked Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, but I think most would agree it is merely an average to just above average game that belongs in the “cult favourite” category.

    Brawlout seems supremely content with the middle ground, to be fun but unremarkable. There’s no Mario, Scorpion, or Comic Book front man on the cover; instead, the obscure roster fails to carry the brawler beyond the appeal of any fighting game with an ongoing legacy. The diamond in the rough comes in the form of free character updates, the next one being the Dead Cells hero. However, I can’t base the final on how much better the experience will be a year from now.

    If not for the unique film noir storytelling combined with a stylized black and white look, White Night could have been one of the more forgettable survival horror games of 2015. Unfair enemies and camera issues dampens an experience which otherwise should have been much better than the sum of its parts.

    With gameplay easy to jump into and simple, responsive controls, Glow is a great game for some quick, basic combat...This is a game well suited for helping pass the time but sadly doesn’t offer a reason for players to become invested in it.

    Linelight is a solid attempt to change things up. It gets major points on its design and structure. The care taken trying to craft something new and original is commendable. I can’t guarantee you’ll walk away totally satisfied or with a tremendous sense of accomplishment but you will enjoy the trip. And as any true existentialist can attest to, it’s all about the journey and not the destination.

    While the games themselves are fairly solid, nothing about them stands out quite enough to warrant purchasing them again unless you are a die hard fan of the franchise. Given that Metro Exodus only released last year and follows as a direct sequel to Last Light, your money might be better spent jumping into the latest entry in the series than revisiting something 10 years old.

    JETT: The Far Shore is an ambitious game that is unrelenting in its vision. Placing peaceful exploration at the forefront, missions lack direction and purpose. Although great when flying long distances, the Jett encounters many issues in compact areas. With stiff movement, dull missions and frustrating enemies, JETT: The Far Shore falls short of its ambitious goal.

    Darksiders 3 could have done so much more for the franchise as they branched into the Souls-like style of gameplay, however, frame-rate problems, long load times, outdated graphics, and the kind of bugs that shouldn’t be a problem anymore coupled with a lacking narrative and shoe-horned character development left me disappointed. I wanted to get pulled into this world once more, but instead, I was left wanting to get out.

    Ebenezer and the Invisible World brings forward a fun new concept. But actually getting you to enjoy it fully is a whole other ball game. With tedious and lackluster combat and enemies dragging down, it’s standing solely on concept and visuals. Overall, it doesn’t seem to bring anything special or engaging to the metroidvania table.

    It’s fun for awhile but the thrills soon peter out as the scope of combat feels so locked down and restrained compared to what you can do in other games. The inherent limitations of the overall game concept really stand out and the one trick pony nature of a Road Rash game just doesn’t fly today.

    Presentation-wise, Supergonk has a lot to offer. Gameplay-wise, Trailblazers kicks off on all cylinders in a wonderful first impression. However, it drags on its way to the finish line, which is why a driver might prefer some company to keep them entertained along the way.

    Sure, credit where credit is due, MWIII’s gameplay is solid with industry best gunplay and the Zombies mode is one of the franchises best ever. But it’s the half dozen or so poor design choices that continue to drag these games down. Call of Duty has risen to a level where they’re just too big to listen to fan feedback, and MWIII is a testament to this. Call of Duty fans deserve better.

    Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots lands in the rough. At first glance, it seems to capture the spirit of the originals, but closer inspection reveals what it’s missing. Dated visuals, inconsistent performance, and grating dialogue build frustration. While the game offers plenty of modes and chaotic multiplayer options, the lack of gameplay innovation makes these features feel stale. You might enjoy a quick round, but it doesn’t do enough to keep you hooked for the full 18.

    In the end this game does manage to show off what some of the benefits of The New 3DS are, but the short gameplay length and shortcomings of the 2011 original that are still evident (e.g. pixely visuals when close to the ground environments) just can’t push this game into the realm of must have for The New 3DS.

    Valley is an enjoyable experience that tells a comfortable narrative through brilliant music, exemplary writing, and a creative setting. It doesn’t quite hit all the notes of what we ought to know for a satisfying ending and it is, unfortunately, plagued by a lack of map, lighting issues, and terrible frame-rate drops. Locomotion in the L.E.A.F. suit is often the most fun you’ll have in the game and it is wonderful to be able to take such a simple and heartfelt story with you in handheld mode on the Switch, however, once the game is done you probably won’t be inclined to play it again.

    Most strategy players know the opening dozen or so turns are crucial to developing your tactics and what you do will make or break your experience. Dawn of Andromeda, however, makes you play the long game: enemies are virtually unable to rush you in combat as they are hindered by the same tech tree you are and this means the biggest rewards come later in the game. While this is a moderate introduction into the 4X genre, there simply isn’t enough of the necessary substance here to carry itself. Should construction times be cut or simplified at least players would have more to do, but as it stands it’s a lot more waiting than anyone will want to put in.

    Super Bomberman R is a Bomberman game through and through. Although the game features the classic Bomberman gameplay, an overall lack of innovation and previously developed customization makes the formula feel stale.

    The controls are smooth and the graphics look fantastic but it feels like it just needs more variety. In a game heavily inspired by children’s imaginations, the repetition is surprisingly dull.

    It simply stands as a slightly above average game for its price but nothing else more. Although future DLC is said to be on its way, I can only hope UFO Dad will be expanded and be given the spark it needs.

    Overall I found that the game has some Kinect related issues that can take away from the fun, but many fans will forgive the shortcomings these present, whereas casual fans will not. With this in mind, the game is really for those who love everything about Harry Potter and the final score reflects that.

    With breathtakingly haunting audio and some nostalgic gameplay, Shiny is a wordlessly emotional story with a sympathetic hero that has all the potential to be a great experience. However, the menu bugs and basic level structure can leave this something of an unintentionally bleak affair in the wrong way.
