The gallery on this page contains the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 4 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 16, 2022.
(#12) The list of Christmas-themed horror films isn't a long one, but this just-released "parody" may be one of the worst examples so far. The titular mean one, played by Terrifier's David Howard Thornton, is Dr. Seuss's the Grinch without the license, and he doesn't just ruin the holiday: He also has a bad habit of murdering people. But do you know who is even meaner? The critics. For example, whatever "fleeting" enjoyment to be found in The Mean One is, according to IGN, "like the glee of biting into candy only to find, seconds later, that it's black licorice flavor." Ouch.
“A parody only by legal definition, The Mean One has no teeth as a naughty comedy or gory horror.” —Nick Allen, RogerEbert.com
