The 15 Worst Movies of 2018
Updated January 3, 2019 to add late-arriving dud Holmes & Watson.
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 20, 2018.
(#3) A rare misfire for arthouse distributor A24 (in fact, it's their lowest-scoring movie to date), this mystery written and directed by former Stellastarr frontman Shawn Christensen stars Logan Lerman, Elle Fanning, Michelle Monaghan, and Kyle Chandler. Not a bad cast—but a bad movie, nevertheless, with Christensen's "pretentious," "manipulative," "shallow," and "artificial" script getting much of the blame.
“Initially it seems as if Sidney Hall will just be another film about lone geniuses trapped in worlds where they’re misunderstood or undervalued, but the film then unspools into nearly two hours of baffling narrative choices, weak character development, and so many offensive cliches that it would be funny if it wasn’t so, well, offensive.” —Kate Erbland, IndieWire
