The 15 Worst Movies of 2018
Updated January 3, 2019 to add late-arriving dud Holmes & Watson.
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 20, 2018.
(#14) Seemingly intended as an incredibly raunchy, R-rated take on Who Framed Roger Rabbit? but with puppets subbing in for cartoon characters, Brian Henson's The Happytime Murders will probably be remembered (if at all) for being sued by the makers of Sesame Street (with the film prevailing). Happytime star Melissa McCarthy should hope that the film is forgotten, lest memories of it affect Oscar voters when they are considering nominating her for her far superior 2018 performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
“The Happytime Murders is a one-joke movie, minus one joke. The year may cough up a worse film, but probably not a more joyless, witless one, raunchy or otherwise.” —Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
