The 15 Worst Movies of 2018
Updated January 3, 2019 to add late-arriving dud Holmes & Watson.
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. All scores are from December 20, 2018.
(#10) It's not often that a major studio dud is dumped in theaters with little fanfare on Christmas Day—typically reserved for major event films—and it's certainly not often that a movie is so bad that even Netflix passes on it. But both distinctions fit Etan Cohen's "comedic" take on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, with Will Ferrell playing Holmes and John C. Reilly starring as his sidekick, Dr. Watson. Not a single critic liked the result, and it had the worst opening weekend for any Ferrell starring vehicle to date (to open in wide release).
“If there are any new jokes left to tell about Holmes, they’re nowhere to be found in the abysmal Holmes & Watson, which might be the worst feature-length film ever made about the “consulting detective” from Baker Street” —Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, The A.V. Club
