The 15 Worst Movies of 2017
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#9) At one point, Hollywood was ready to turn the Harry Hole crime novels by best-selling Norwegian author Jo Nesbø into a series of films with the first, The Snowman, to be directed by Martin Scorsese. Instead, you are looking at the beginning and quite possibly the end of a film franchise, thanks to a thoroughly bungled, confusing, and spooky-snowman-filled adaptation from director Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let the Right One In) and screenwriter Hossein Amini (Drive), among others. It was the final entry in a year filled with box office flops for star Michael Fassbender. The film wasn't a total waste, however: It inspired a meme.
“The Snowman is ugly and nasty, but that’s not the worst of it. The worst is that it’s boring and makes no sense.” —Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
