The 15 Worst Movies of 2017
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#7) Back-to-back Gerard Butler movies? Perhaps it wasn't his best year. The first (but not worst) of his two 2017 films, this formulaic drama from former corporate headhunter Bill Dubuque (Netflix's Ozark) finds Butler playing a hard-charging current corporate headhunter who learns to end his workaholic ways when his young son is diagnosed with leukemia. (Unfortunately, it takes him the entire film to do so.) Family Man wastes a strong supporting cast that includes Alison Brie, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina.
“Sparing no maudlin contrivance in a quest to jerk tears that remain stubbornly dry, this hokum is slickly executed by producer Mark Williams in his feature directorial debut. But the result never rises above polished plastic, formulaic, and pedestrian.” —Dennis Harvey, Variety
