The 15 Worst Movies of 2017
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#15) In recent years, Bruce Willis has gone the Nicolas Cage route, transforming from big time charismatic action star to man who will appear in any low-budget action thriller as long as there is a paycheck involved. So it's only fair that, like Cage, Willis grabs a spot on our worst-of-the-year list. Both of his 2017 films were terrible, but this one—a comedic thriller that marks the directorial debut for TV writers Mark and Robb Cullen—especially so, despite a seemingly bulletproof story concept that is John Wick meets Taken meets every Shane Black film, but with more hijinks. (Lest you think that at least you'll get some nice Italian scenery out of it, note that the setting is the Venice neighborhood in Los Angeles.)
“Stylistically, Once Upon A Time In Venice is mostly indistinguishable from a middling TV pilot that never made it to series” —Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, A.V. Club
