The 15 Worst Movies of 2017
Above are the lowest-scoring films released in the United States between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded.
(#13) A would-be epic romance set during the waning days of the Ottoman Empire from veteran director Joseph Ruben (Sleeping with the Enemy), Lieutenant commits the cinematic sin of being soapy yet dull, and the moral sin of attempting to deny the Armenian genocide. On the plus side, the film looks good.
“The Ottoman Lieutenant is an overwrought nurse romance merged with a history lesson, a combination that is hard to take as seriously as the film wants to be taken.” —Neil Genzlinger, The New York Times
