12+ Films to See in December
With Academy Award nominations rapidly approaching, December is the month when several major contenders will finally be unveiled. While most moviegoers must wait until January to see films like Martin Scorsese's Silence, Ben Affleck's Live by Night, Mike Mills' 20th Century Women, and Theodore Melfi's Hidden Figures, there are still plenty of solid choices headed to a cineplex near you this month, including Damien Chazelle's La La Land, Denzel Washington's Fences, Pablo Larraín's Jackie, and more. We've picked out the best of the bunch below.
Disney has a lot riding on this first of many planned “Star Wars Stories,” so it’s not surprising that re-shoots were required to make everyone at the studio happy. But will it make Star Wars fans happy?
Directed by Gareth Edwards and set between Episode III and Episode IV, this stand-alone adventure follows Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) as she’s recruited to aid in a rebel mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. Her father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), has something to do with its construction, as does the Empire’s Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn).
Joining Jyn in her battle are Diego Luna as Rebel Alliance Captain Cassian Andor; Donny Yen as the blind warrior Chirrut Imwe; Jiang Wen as the heavily armed Baze Malbus; Riz Ahmed as the pilot Bodhi Rook; Forest Whitaker as the battle-tested Saw Gerrera, and the hulking security droid K-2SO voiced by Alan Tudyk.
