Pedro Almodóvar’s first film since 2013‘s disappointing I’m So Excited is an adaptation of three short stories by Alice Munro. A time-jumping study of a mother’s grief, guilt, and relationship to the daughter who abandoned her, the film has earned mixed early reviews but enough strong praise to earn a spot on this list.
