These Are the Best (and Worst) Star Trek Movies, Ranked
The voyages of the starship Enterprise have enjoyed a long life on the big screen through decades of marauding aliens, environmental crises, and temporal anomalies. Although the crew has achieved its mission of boldly going where no one has gone before, the various films have had spottier levels of success, at least with critics.
Now that Star Trek Beyond has arrived in theaters, take a look at how the new film compares with those that came before it, with rankings courtesy of our unique Metascore rating system.
Wrath of Khan is arguably the best of the Star Trek films if you ask die-hard Trekkers. Not only did it pile on the danger and pathos, but it wisely brought back Ricardo Montalban as the scenery-chewing Khan, still one of the most diabolical villains the Enterprise has faced. Spock’s selflessness, the mind-control eels, and Kirk’s anguished cry of “KHAN!!!!” add up to a film that can be watched on repeat.
“I don't much care if the battles aren't that amazing, because the story doesn't depend on them. It's about a sacrifice made by Spock, and it draws on the sentiment and audience identification developed over the years by the TV series.” —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
