The impressive 2013 indie adventure Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons featured a unique gameplay mechanic that tasked players with controlling two characters simultaneously. For his follow-up, director Josef Fares takes that concept to its logical next step.
Released through the new EA Originals label, A Way Out centers on a pair of convicts who must break out of prison and evade capture. The catch? Each of the pair is controlled by a different player through split-screen co-op every step of the way; there is no single-player mode, and no dropping in and out. Though it's a third-person game, each half of the screen will only show what is happening within view of that particular player—which, in some cases, may be very little. And though both players must cooperate to get through certain obstacles, your progress may not always coincide perfectly; one player may have a cutscene while the other is still under control.
Not willing to commit to purchasing two copies of a new game right away? Surprisingly, you don't have to. Every purchaser will get a free-trial pass to give to a friend, so you can complete the game with only one paid copy.
