Ubisoft's open-world action-adventure series has visited Africa, various tropical islands, the Stone Age, and—in its most recent numbered installment, in 2014—the Himalayas. For its first title in the Trump era, Far Cry heads to an even more exotic locale: rural, rugged Montana, where an armed, anti-government, separatist, religious cult named Eden's Gate has taken hold, facing off against law enforcement as well as members of the local population who have formed a resistance movement.
Will FC5 manage to navigate this potentially divisive scenario (inspired in part by the recent Malheur National Wildlife Refuge standoff in Oregon) with finesse? It's too early to tell. Regardless, you play (either solo, or in 2-player co-op) as a junior deputy who sets out to take down the cult with the help of a pastor, a pilot, and a bartender. But exactly who is your deputy? For the first time in a Far Cry game, that's up to you, thanks to a new character creator. Travel in vehicles ranging from ATVs to planes (yes, there are dogfights), and enlist animals such as dogs and bears.
