Sci-fi series debuts October 21 on Prime Video
Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan return with another sci-fi series, this time based on a William Gibson novel (and adapted by Scott B. Smith rather than Joy and Nolan, who merely produce). Finally emerging this month after a four-year development period, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fisher, a woman struggling with an ill mother and a flailing career in a small rural town in near-future America who gets an unexpected opportunity to escape to a far more exciting life via an experimental new VR device. But is what happens in the virtual world (including a shocking murder) merely a simulation, as she first thinks—or is it somehow real? Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, and Alexandra Billings also star. New episodes stream weekly, and there should be plenty of material for future seasons if necessary: Gibson's book is part of a trilogy.
