What to Watch in October: 22 Notable TV Shows & Streaming Movies
The month ahead will bring the highly anticipated return of HBO hit Succession, Denis Villeneuve's long-delayed Dune movie, a prequel to The Sopranos, and (unsurprisingly) a lot of horror. In the gallery on this page, our editors have selected the most interesting TV and movie titles debuting at home in the next month, listed in order by premiere date.
Season 3 debuts October 17 on HBO
The pandemic-delayed (and shortened, by one episode) third season of the buzzy HBO hit finally arrives after last airing a new episode almost exactly two years ago—a gap that left the series unable to defend its best drama series Emmy crown this year. Newcomers this season include Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, and South Korean musician Jihae, while Hope Davis will appear in multiple episodes as the daughter of a rival media mogul, Adrien Brody will challenge the Roys as an activist investor, and Alexander Skarsgård will portray the CEO of a tech company. With returning champion The Crown now officially sitting this year out, Succession is all but guaranteed to be the drama frontrunner at the 2022 Emmys.
