Italian director Andrea Pallaoro (Medeas, Hannah) directs this understated and thoughtful family drama about a woman, Monica (trans actor Trace Lysette), who returns home to take care of her mother Eugenia (Patricia Clarkson). It is the first time Monica has returned home since being kicked out as a teenager, and the first time meeting her brother’s (Joshua Close) children. Like his previous films, Pallaoro wrote the script with Orlando Tirado, and much is left unsaid in the film, but it’s this restraint which leads to the film’s success.
