Comedy series debuts March 6 on Hulu
Forget Drunk History; this is silly history. (But, coincidentally, with many of the same cast members the former.) A belated TV series sequel to Mel Brooks' 1981 comedy film History of the World: Part I, the eight-episode Hulu exclusive will be a similar anthology of sketches set during a variety of key periods in human history—though not necessarily the ones teased at the end of the film. Among the events covered are the fall of the Berlin wall, the Civil War, Watergate, Shirley Chisholm's presidential campaign, Galileo's attempts to become a TikTok star, and Jesus Christ's concert tour. (It's possible one or more of those didn't happen in real life, but, then again, it's been a while since we had a history class.)
The now-96-year-old Brooks is also the creator of the series, serving as writer and appearing on camera, while his fellow writer-producer-performers include Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. And the rest of the cast? Guess a name, and you are probably right. Here's a random sample of just some of the stars involved: Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Sarah Silverman, Sam Richardson, Jason Mantzoukas, Lauren Lapkus, Zazie Beetz, Fred Armisen, Arturo Castro, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Danny DeVito, D'Arcy Carden, Pamela Adlon, Jake Johnson, Richard Kind, Josh Gad, Drew Tarver, Rob Corddry, Paul Scheer, J.B. Smoove, David Wain, Carl Tart, Poppy Liu, Casey Wilson, Taika Waititi, and Johnny Knoxville. Does NBA star Blake Griffin play Muhammad Ali? Sure, why not. Hulu has scheduled History as an event series, with two new episodes streaming each day next week from Monday through Thursday.
