Writer-director A.V. Rockwell’s debut feature is a decades-spanning look at Inez (Teyana Taylor), who kidnaps her son from foster care and struggles to provide him a better life in a rapidly gentrifying Harlem. Jumping from the 1990s to 2001 and then to 2005, it’s poignant look at Black motherhood and the power of love and perseverance. The film won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize (Dramatic) at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and its trailer is definitely worth two minutes of your time.
