In this Audience Award winner from the World Cinema Documentary section of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Ukrainian filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mstyslav Chernov captures the brutal impact of modern warfare on the citizens in the besieged city of Mariupol. With the help of conflict zone reporters Evgeniy Maloletka and Vasilisa Stepanenko, Chernov provides an intense and harrowing account of Russian atrocities that should not and, in some cases, cannot be forgotten. If it’s not playing in a theater near you, look for it on PBS this fall.
Expect the PBS/Associated Press collaboration to also air on the PBS series Frontline later this year.
