With his third feature, writer-director Brandon Cronenberg continues to push the boundaries of creepy, sci-fi horror as he did in 2013’s Antiviral and, especially, 2020’s Possessor. Alexander Skarsgård and Cleopatra Coleman star as James and Em, a couple whose idyllic vacation takes a turn for the worse when they leave the grounds of their secluded resort with Mia Goth’s Gabi as their tour guide. A tragic accident lands them in jail and with only two options (the island has very specific laws concerning crime): be executed, or, if you’re rich enough, watch yourself die instead. To say this is only the beginning of James and Em’s troubles is an understatement. Look for early reviews from the film's premiere at Sundance in a few weeks.
