19 TV Shows to Watch in January
In the gallery above, our editors have selected the most interesting TV shows (including TV movies and specials) debuting this month, listed in order by premiere date.
Series debuts January 10 on Netflix. Named one of the best shows of 2019 by The Telegraph when it aired in the UK on BBC2 last fall, this artsy British crime thriller (its title translates to "Duty/Shame") focuses on a clash between rival Yakuza gangs that spans multiple countries (and languages), with much of the action split between London and Tokyo. British critics mostly raved about the eight-episode series, which is unafraid to experiment with format (including an all-flashback episode and repeated animated and split-screen sequences). Takehiro Hira, Kelly Macdonald, Will Sharpe, and Justin Long star.
