30 Film Directors Who Have Never Made a Bad Movie
Recently, we looked at 30 filmmakers who made only one well-reviewed movie over their entire careers, and then 25 great directors who missed out on perfection by just one film. But there is an even more elite group of film directors who have received critical acclaim for every single film they ever directed. In other words, they've never received anything but a green Metascore for one of their features.
How many of those directors can you guess? Check them all out in the gallery above. Note that we only looked at directors who have made at least five films since 1980.
There are few bigger fans of cinema than Quentin Tarantino, and the filmmaker has given his fellow movie fans plenty more to celebrate, directing eight well-received films since emerging as part of the 1990s indie film scene. Given his skill with dialogue, it's not surprising that both of his Oscar trophies have been awarded for his writing rather than his directing, though Tarantino is not quite as flawless when he writes but doesn't direct. (True Romance and From Dusk Till Dawn, for example, have yellow Metascores.)
Up next for the director is 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a period drama about the Manson Family starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, and Al Pacino. Note that Tarantino also directed segments in the multi-director anthologies Four Rooms and Grindhouse that are not listed below (since each director's segments are not scored separately).
