Fall Games Preview: 20 Most-Anticipated Videogames
Below, we profile the most noteworthy videogames scheduled for release between now and the end of the year. Games without official release dates (like this week's new Early Access title Divinity: Original Sin 2) are omitted, since they may not arrive until 2017.
Originally developed as Final Fantasy Versus XIII (beginning in 2006!), this new major installment in the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" FF sub-series is an open-world (at least in the first half of the story), action-RPG blend that is expected to be much darker and more realistic than past Final Fantasy games. The story, inspired partly by The Last of Us, takes place in a world similar to present-day Earth, and should take 40-50 hours to complete (with another 50 or so hours of side quests and extra content). Early complaints about the difficulty of real-time combat have been addressed by the addition of a pause feature while fighting. There's still no word on a PC version, but consoles will finally get the oft-delayed game just after Thanksgiving. In the meantime, you can watch the companion feature film on home video.
