Fall Games Preview: 20 Most-Anticipated Videogames
Below, we profile the most noteworthy videogames scheduled for release between now and the end of the year. Games without official release dates (like this week's new Early Access title Divinity: Original Sin 2) are omitted, since they may not arrive until 2017.
In a year that has already seen virtual reality gaming technology go mainstream (with the arrivals of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets earlier this year), the field is about to get even more crowded with the launch of Sony's own PlayStation VR. We are still waiting for reviews on its technical performance, but the $399 peripheral, of course, will really only be as good as the software available for it. The good news is that Sony expects dozens of VR-compatible titles to be available this year, including exclusives like Batman Arkham VR, Driveclub VR, Farpoint, and a new Star Wars Battlefront VR mission. (Other upcoming games, such as Star Trek: Bridge Crew, are targeted for all of the major VR platforms.)
The VR is not the only new PS hardware coming this fall. Also on tap is Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro console (out November 10), which upgrades the current generation hardware with improved visuals (4K and HDR, boosted by a faster GPU), a 1TB hard drive, and more, though only some games (at first) will utilize the higher resolution, which will require downloading a patch for existing games.
