Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
The Coen brothers wrote this film while struggling to plot out Miller’s Crossing. The 1991 film about an idealistic New York playwright trying to make it as a screenwriter in Hollywood was such a big hit at Cannes that it swept the major awards there for best picture, actor, and director, forcing the festival to change its rules.
"Stimulating entertainment, as rigorously challenging and painfully funny as anything the Coens have done." —Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
