Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This 1998 film may have disappointed at the box office ($17.4 million), but it has become one of the brothers’ most popular films. Jeff Bridges stars as The Dude, a slacker who only wants compensation for his ruined rug. Chaos might erupt around him, but he’s just The Dude, man.
"Watching it amble along is enough of a treat, since the Coens populate this story with oddballs and bowling balls of such comic variety." —Elvis Mitchell, The New York Times
