Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
The Coen brothers’ take on Homer’s Odyssey—albeit transported to the Depression-era Deep South—might be the duo's most adventurous title to date. The 2000 film follows the travels of three chain gang escapees who encounter some of the wildest characters in any Coen brothers movie. T-Bone Burnett’s beautiful soundtrack makes this film just that much better.
"It's a wild, whacked-out wonder. Coen-heads rejoice." —Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
