Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This gorgeous gangster film had incredibly unfortunate timing. The third film by the Coens arrived in theaters just three weeks after one of the greatest gangster movies ever released: Goodfellas. Despite being overshadowed, Miller’s Crossing had a stellar cast, led by Gabriel Byrne.
"The Coens have technique and they have taste; what they do not yet have is the ability to move beyond their handsome imagery to the human center of their material." —Dave Kehr, Chicago Tribune
