Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This 2008 film is another black comedy from the Coen brothers (are you sensing a theme yet?). As the directing duo describes it, Burn After Reading is about “dueling idiots” played by George Clooney and Brad Pitt. After finishing his third film with the Coen brothers, Clooney joked that their movies are his “trilogy of idiots.”
"It would be no country for movie lovers without the Coens. They still manage to run unmuzzled while the rest of Hollywood runs scared." —Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
